I wonder if any of the people I know and love in this gathering had a change of attitude as a result. Based on what I heard a couple of months ago, such a change was sorely needed.

Yes it is sad that it has come to this, so late, in my opinion. These sorts of workshops should have been part of worker training right in the beginning.
The disciples following Jesus straight from their working life, was a specific calling for a specific time, and not the blueprint for a ministry.
Jesus was educated, and so was Paul.
I have always argued that simply going into the work, straight off the farm (so to speak) with no life experience, is a recipe for disaster. Learning bad habits from the senior companion is also a contributor. I have not argued for formal seminary qualifications, such as a theology degree, or Bachelor of Divinity, (although I think these could also be helpful), but these types of workshops, which are common place in the business world, should be a minimum requirement.
