For brain-storming some ideas. No matter how whacky, or left-field. And suggestions for who might assist (it needs moderation, in particular regular monitoring so TMB stays on the right side of ProBoards ToS rules and libel laws around the world - not just in the US). This is particularly important because TMB allows membership by all, and believes in free speech (within the bounds of those rules and laws that we must abide by). Long ago, TMB became very much the "Wild West", and quickly ran foul of heaps of rules, laws and common decency. That's not going to happen again

I want it to continue. Some people can't be on face book because of where they work professionally. I know when you work in Corrections it's not a wise idea to be on face book. I imagine there are other professions where it's not advisable either. Also, you have an 'old' crowd here that have been here for a long time and we know each other well. It is our one place to continue to interact because of our diversity. People have always come and gone here, with times like this when the new people jump on and make themselves known for awhile and then they die off again. But the crowd that has been here since I joined in 2010 are still around. We take a few breaks sometimes, but it's nice to know it's here for when we can come back. Even when I take breaks I check in to make sure I know how people I've known a long time are. Of course I understand it's a lot of work for you to keep it open just for us old time regulars, but if you don't mind doing that I vote to keep it here. Thanks snow, points all taken. All the fairly new Facebook sites are 'competitors' with TMB, but we've no wish to compete - they do their thing and we can do ours. Like you snow, many on here steer clear of FB, and also the cultures that medium engenders. One thing that TMB can do well, and certainly a gap worth filling, is to provide "MEETING NEWS". This current crisis has highlighted just how little real "news" that the average F&W gets access to. Worker letters and emails are about the only form of news for most F&W who don't go near the FB groups. So they remain mushrooms. Any ideas and offers to volunteer to source & support TMB news postings will be helpful. Over to you all for ideas, offers, brainwaves! admin

Not really extreme,
promote and enforce ministry safe program... probably an official website covering many issues... wake parents up that they are the first line of defense against this evil... allow call in only for attendance by convicted pedo's at least level 2 and 3...and maybe even the lower 1...

Just wondering - do we want to encourage more Worker participation here?
We have a few (small handful) who post, and a few more "Worker lurkers". Personally, I think it would serve the F&W group really well for Workers to engage here (if I were a Worker, that is the sort of real-world engagement - amongst many others - that would be essential to being relevant in today's world).
Ideas?

Over to you all for ideas, offers, brainwaves! admin I just wanted to say that I am on Face book in some of the private groups. But I do know people who work in situations where it's not advisable to have your name on any social media platform. I know a few people that don't like fb like you mention so TMB gives them a place where they don't need to sign onto social media and they can post anonymously. What does being a volunteer moderator entail? As far as solutions I really don't see problems with how it's been working? So not sure what you are looking for. I like it the way it is. Is it a problem how it currently works? edit: I see you asked about encouraging more workers to post here. I think that would be a good idea. In the past though you need to be ready for people to ask some really hard questions and it might be hard for them to not become defensive and realize where some of the exes are coming from. Some have really good reasons for being angry and hurt. Especially now with what's being revealed about what they've been doing (some of them)

I'm all for encouraging more worker participation.
TMB has a lot of benefits over the various Facebook groups; simple to use, easy to find historical posts, safe for those who wish to remain anonymous (seperate to work/social/family social media accounts).
Admin does a fantastic job of vetting posts and I know this is a labour intensive job, so maybe we could simplify the categories more?
I'd like to see the board keep more on topic. Keep the subjects relevant to the church.

I've been a lurker on TMB for 15 years. The biggest problem with TMB is the small number of users who comment/post on nearly everything. These small number of users have opinions on everything, and frequently drive threads off topic. I believe that the primary role of a moderator is to ban these types of users. Why? Because these types of users cause normal users to not participate and to leave the forum permanently.
Look at the number of posts by each user on TMB - there are clearly some users who have nothing of interest in their lives than their addiction to TMB, and in the process have destroyed the TMB community by posting non-stop.

I agree 100% I recently returned to TMB after a few years away. At the time I left, I'd got sick of every thread being turned into a discussion of either the trinity, or worse, Valiant Thor.

I am one with lots of posts since I joined in 2010. I guess I would have to agree that I do have an opinion on lots of things. I have taken long breaks from here when it got too much. I do value the people I've been here with though. I care about them.

I've always valued your input, Snow. What I got bored of last time was the one track ponies who hijacked every thread with the same old rhetoric.

One thing about having this new focus, we're not beating dead horses like the Trinity. And without Nathan we aren't hearing about Valiant Thor and heaven being inside a planet. That's kind of a relief. But I just tend to scroll past that kind of thing if I don't want to bother with it. I think you need to be selective here in what you decide is worth your time to read. Kind of like life.

What got me to take a break was his tendency to call for workers executions and Maryhig a few years ago just because they didn't believe in the Trinity. Most of the time he brought 'color' to the boards though!

He tends to get carried away sometimes with his beliefs and that was one time he carried to far and got banned for awhile.

Cherie Kropp's book gives a long history of that and it was very inspiring. Maybe workers can do more of that in the future.

I pretty much agree with this too. I first joined in 2008 and left a year or so later. I rejoined in 2010 and only make an occasional post. I enjoyed the early days when I was a spiritual ‘seeker’ as it were, never having made any profession of faith despite being B&R. I remember some great exchanges with some good people. RonHall was a favourite despite me never being a 2x2; I remember Selah, and Brick, and Ken Coolidge (a prolific poster with never a bad word for anyone) and Clearday, and ariandgabe (a tough cookie that one!). Emy was reasonable and balanced, and so many others; ilylo, bert, GEC, and it goes on. It seemed like everyone was earnestly trying to find the answers, but they still had respect even if they differed. There were much fewer atheists/ unbelievers, although I think snow came along at that time and also lizzy and Annan, and probably Matt 10 too so maybe I’m wrong about that. Now it seems there’s much fewer posters and each one thinks they have the answers, so that it’s just become a point scoring exercise. Anyhow, I’ve no suggestions about how you should carry on, but if you all continue, I’ll still enjoy a look in now & then.

My comments may be of no importance but here is one thing I would hope we could do more of. The workers have in recent years have not reached out to the public as they did decades ago. Let's see if we can have more reporting on where gospel missions are and their success. Cherie Kropp's book gives a long history of that and it was very inspiring. Maybe workers can do more of that in the future. I agree wholeheartedly with christiansburg, it would be nice to have workers contributing on TMB with meeting news and views. BUT... Fat chance of any normal workers contributing on TMB with the preponderance of the atheists who have taken over TMB in recent months. Fair enough, some of them are worth listening to. But reading the recent atheist threads, they appear to be "hunting in numbers", shouting down any Christian views. Some of them ooze an arrogant self confidence that they alone have the understanding and vision of the world that us poor, weak Christians (or people of any faith, for that matter) lack. I do wonder if many are not desperately seeking an assurance from their weight of numbers in the atheist beliefs they now profess. It's a pity, if there wasn't such an arrogant and disparaging tone, many of their arguments and questions they raise are worthwhile. I doubt the administrators and moderators can do much to fix this trend, so personally I don't find much point in keeping TMB going. And I haven't even got to Nathan, yet!
