This sub-board is for discussion and suggestions for future directions of TMB.
At start of this year, my feeling was that TMB had served its purpose, and the slightly 'old technology' of a message board was no longer particularly relevant or useful in the world of Facebook, TikTok and other social media platforms.
Shutting down TMB and just leaving it to sit on the internet like some kind of old dinosaur bones for any interested future historians seemed a sensible thing to do.
And then along came Dean Bruer!
We have had many, many new members queueing up to join, on a daily basis. So it seems that the old dinosaur message board might still have some usefulness, certainly for those who shy away from Facebook etc.
This sub-board is to canvass views from the TMB community (both long-standing members, and hopefully our new members - many of whom have not yet posted anything).
Please start up topic threads on this subject, here... we are 'all ears'!

I'll remain on it. I reckon at least 250-500 new folks?

I like it. Social media is not for me. Forums are much better for searching and archiving.

I do notice some other forums have a better code of conduct and don't tolerate misogynist name-calling or bullying.

I do notice some other forums have a better code of conduct and don't tolerate misogynist name-calling or bullying. Well, yes. It would be wonderful if everybody on TMB was able to "keep themselves nice" in their posts and interactions with others. But... Can you imagine how many hours of my life, trying to police such a rule would take?! Sometime soon (but it will be tomorrow now) I'll post some of my thoughts and policy based on the aims of the original founder of TMB (which I feel a commitment to keep true to). Please keep the discussion and suggestions coming, and I've noted "encouraging more niceness among the TMB community". BTW, misogyny is totally unacceptable here and I'll add that to the rules. If and where it occurs, please point it out to the admin team and those posts will be deleted. Thanks

As you would likely know, Admin, I'm a long-time lurker and only a recent (occasional) participant. I have long appreciated the information I can find here that might not be readily available among my friends and family. I appreciate most of the people who post here. I do regret the name-calling by some folks but other long-time participants seem to take it in stride, so -- more power to them! I hope you can keep this going. Thank you.

Truth be told, I have a fondness in my heart for my TMB “family”. I find I can be honest here in a way I don’t feel I can on social media groups. I appreciate that. I hope it keeps going.

TMB is a very valuable forum for any with some connection to what is referred to as the 2*2 church, regardless of where their belief is at now, or whether they belong to church or not. Unlike some social media sites where membership is contingent on meeting certain criteria, TMB does not discriminate. That is invaluable. I like to think of it as the "Truth Members Bridge" where we can build bridges across racial, sociological, theological, hierachical and location divides.
It is probably also empowering to any victims of CSA, SA, victimisation or bullying and encourages them to step forward and take action.

Please stay. This is my very first time to post though I think I first found this site around 2011 perhaps. We had been so warned about those "awful people telling untruths on the Internet." Untrue statements about good people. I found those like Scott Ross who truly cared and worked with everyone to obtain facts and to provide support. I too do not like to see posts that just minimize, discount and disrupt, but I suppose it serves some purpose? Just so you know those who do post such. Sometimes I ignore you. Other times I listen and consider. Thanks Administrator for all you do. Thanks for all who post here. You have helped me with your sharing. If you can stay Administrator, I will still be here fairly often.

Oh wow. I have been on here since 2010 and the people here have become like family to me. I am so glad you didn't shut it down. I know it can get 'wild' sometimes, but it's brought diversity to the site. Other beliefs and mindsets are what make us think and hopefully become more tolerant of differences. I learn from people here all the time. I don't always agree with them, but I do value our discussions a lot. When it gets to a stalemate I just usually say 'it's time to agree to disagree' and still remain friends. I miss so many that have come and gone. I really miss dimmichigood. But I understand that she's no longer in good health and in her 90's! Such an awesome person. Welcome to all the newcomers and lurkers that are now posting. You enhance this board with your thoughts.

I'm a lurker (and was on here way back in around 2007 or so under an alias as "usworker" when I was in the work) and while I rarely engage I do read on here a great deal, especially these last few months of course.
I find the format and interaction here to be more generally in depth than the social media sites like Facebook. I do follow several relative groups there, along with the WINGS site, but I do really enjoy the discussions here. They have a different feel, and I often find them thought provoking even if I don't comment.
I vote for keeping it up for sure!

Truth be told, I have a fondness in my heart for my TMB “family”. I find I can be honest here in a way I don’t feel I can on social media groups. I appreciate that. I hope it keeps going. Yeah. There's something to this. One of my life rules is that "Your Facebook friends are not your friends." I do not use social media to stay connected with people who are genuinely my friends, I have several other means of doing that. It's funny. I post under my real name both here and on Facebook. I tend to be very private on Facebook, not so much here. I think the reason for it is I am aware that a lot of my opinions/views are fairly controversial where friends and family are concerned. I am not in the least bit ashamed of anything I say/think, and if questioned, I would answer anyone as clearly and as honestly as I could over any issue. However, I am much more comfortable if they search me out here, than if it is thrust in their faces on something like Facebook. I really liked the old ListServ, which was invaluable to me after I had left 2X2ism. What I particularly liked about that was that no one point of view ever was predominant. The Christians, atheists, and "others" were all very well represented, and while one group would win certain squirmishes, no one group prevailed overall. I also met some outstanding human beings as a result, that immeasurably helped ground me in the new world/experiences I was navigating at that time. I migrated to this forum in 2007. It was the next best thing to the original ListServ, in having a diversity of thought and opinion. Kudos to the Admins, for as much as they were able to encourage this. In my experience, over the years, forums rapidly died, when everybody was of too much the same opinion. I was far less participatory here in the past few years where the atheists pretty much had the upper hand. As an "other", it just wasn't particularly interesting to me. I agree there has been a revival here, the past few months. Decent people of every background and opinion are speaking out about unthinkable CSA and other issues. When I see people like @wally and curlywurlysammagee aligned on this issue, it truly gives me hope for the future of humanity.

This is like a trip down memory lane! I was introduced to TMB back in 2011/2012...it was the tonic I needed (not necessarily to go with gin at the time in my life when I was struggling. The names that come to mind for me - who helped me discover that I wasn't alone, that there was purpose in life was "hberry" and "St. Anne". Remember those names!?? Like Sharon - some on here have become dear friends! With what is happening now in the 2x2's I think it is of major importance for TMB to be here (like a bridge over troubled water). There are those who are leaving, or are just confused, some are disillusioned and lost, distrustful of much because their trust has been severely damaged. As far as rules for Admin? Kindness is always appropriate. "You cannot do kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late" (Ralph Waldo Emerson). God's peace!

I do notice some other forums have a better code of conduct and don't tolerate misogynist name-calling or bullying. I agree. Please, Keep this board up. Continue to give voice to so many who have yet to post. Give us room to pause and watch. You hold History Here. Allow us to "Search and Learn". Thank you for being here. This board helped keep an admitted CSA offender off of Convention Grounds. The Victims took a LOT of hard responses...It was at least a decade and a half ago. This Board protected Victims, Heard Victims and made CHANGE. Simply by being here. Keep going. We need you now, more than ever.

They were definitely great people. St. Anne left when I was taking a hiatus from here. She was a lovely lady. I miss Sharon too. So many I remember that aren't here anymore. I miss freespirit. She hasn't been on since 2012. Dimmichigood

Maybe this board is done. I am not sure why admin is stepping in here? Jonathan opens up a legitimate question that is certainly debatable but I don’t know why admin would step in with such an outright denouncement. There are few posting these days. There is a better conversation happening on Facebook advocates for the truth I will reply to the question of why step in with a fairly strong response to Jonathan's post on that thread (it wasn't a criticism of jonathan's post, which I agree with you getreal is a legitimate question from a valued worker participant on TMB, but rather my perspective as a believing Christian pained deeply by a) what has been brought into the light of the actions of the F&W leaders, and b) the pathetic actual responses by those men and maybe a few women. I know I'm with jonathan on this). Maybe this board is done... There are few posting these days. True, and that's why this thread is here. I appreciate the kind comments already posted above, thanks! But like old-fashioned newspapers, probably the time of usefulness for a forum like TMB for news and dialogue within the F&W church has passed. Social media like Facebook is where Millenials, Gen Z'ers and the generations that follow get their 'news' (and ways of thinking, from the abundance of FB etc. 'influencers'). There is a better conversation happening on Facebook advocates for the truth Advocates For The Truth (AFTT) is a wonderful resource, not with agendas (hidden or otherwise) like some of the other FB groups. The focus of AFTT is help for CSA and SA victim/survivors, and with that, they are providing a service not just to the victims, but (largely unrecognized by the church hierarchy) to the F&W in general. Two questions from getreal's reminder of where we are at. 1. How best to close TMB (two extremes, close it for all new posts while retaining the history on here for posterity, or delete it in its entirety). 2. In closing, will there be a significant group of (mainly older) F&W members who will miss out on ways of getting F&W meeting news, not just from Worker letters? admin

Hi, Admin. I said it earlier in the thread and I will again: I appreciate this place. There are some posts I gloss right over but I agree with the principle that all voices are welcome. I may be one of a few who have resisted Facebook's siren call, so I don't see things there and will not see things there. You must do what you must do and I vote that, if you close it, the archive remains. I'd also ask that there be a little warning so connections can be made in other ways if desired. Thank you VERY much for all of your patience.

I want it to continue. Some people can't be on face book because of where they work professionally. I know when you work in Corrections it's not a wise idea to be on face book. I imagine there are other professions where it's not advisable either. Also, you have an 'old' crowd here that have been here for a long time and we know each other well. It is our one place to continue to interact because of our diversity. People have always come and gone here, with times like this when the new people jump on and make themselves known for awhile and then they die off again. But the crowd that has been here since I joined in 2010 are still around. We take a few breaks sometimes, but it's nice to know it's here for when we can come back. Even when I take breaks I check in to make sure I know how people I've known a long time are. Of course I understand it's a lot of work for you to keep it open just for us old time regulars, but if you don't mind doing that I vote to keep it here.
