A Baby in its Mother's womb would think this is as good as it gets. Then without warning it is thrown out the door into a big bad World. It would think "What the Hell" But in time it learns to cope, and survives as best it can. So death is certainly a change, what lies beyond nobody knows.
Religion was developed as a mythology to make us think we are going to a better place. It is just a belief and as such may have no substance. I think you can make it easier on yourself to work out a plan and let the Family know about it. Then when you die you won't have to worry about it. I have made mine. I have booked in at University for my body to be used for Medical Science. Probably thinking that I should get some Brownie points for doing that. Perhaps a good insurance. But apart from that it will provide some entertainment for Medical Students. Whether I get to be an onlooker remains to be seen.

I don't believe that at all. IF it really is annihilation there is no incentive to do right by God, its a eat, drink (and be merry) for tomorrow we die situation. Even IF you go through disintegration for a million years and then it ends it wouldn't matter you no longer exist or care. There are some, even on TMB that crave annihilation. It doesn't bother them at all. |

It seems living forever is important to you so perhaps if annihilation is abhorrent enough then you might be incentivized to conform to a way of being you believe will bring you eternal life. No? This debate has gone on since time began and still there is no definitive answer so why trouble yourself about it. It will take care of itself. Religion makes an assumption based on mythology, not really convincing. But it has kept them in a job.
Scientists probably have a better chance of solving the puzzle, they have made great progress in working out how it all started. Better result than what is recorded in the Bible.

It doesn't bother them at all. Sure there’s an incentive to know God, even with this doctrine. There’s always going to those who reject God, whether they believe in annihilation or in the immortal soul. IMO to worship and serve God, just because you fear Hell Fire, isn’t necessarily a good reason to follow Him. It reminds me of people in my life who have befriended me simply because I’m beneficial to them in some way, not because they appreciate me or like me as an individual. The fact is that the Bible says the soul is mortal. There’s not one instance where it’s described as immortal. The Christian death is called ‘sleep ’ because when Christ returns he’ll wake them up to immortal life, so for the believers there is no annihilation. We’ve been over this before on another thread. I was just throwing it out there because I thought the man gave a good explanation of the doctrine. |

It's nice not to have to walk on eggshells any longer. It's nice looking forward to stress-free holidays. No condolences, please. I am free. My life begins anew. |

I don't understand American politics that much but I do understand & respect there are some fine people on this board that don't deserve being entangled or drawn into Lee and Wally's negativity & perceptions of the world as they see it. |

My observation is that the name calling and negativity is a two-edged sword. It swings both ways. I don’t think it’s accurate to call out only two men on being angry, etc That’s my observation. As for me flying in and reading a few posts: There’s a lot I don’t read and don’t comment on because I’m not informed (like most politics). I don’t watch the news & don’t get the newspaper so I honestly rarely have an informed opinion on certain things. So, I read only what interests me, and subjects I’m familiar with. So, yes, it’s possible that I miss a lot of the negativity in this board. |
