Last week I and others in NZ learnt of Lewis' death in a plane crash in Canada near Didsbury. The pilot was Royal Stewart. I met Lewis when I was about 18 as I sometimes attended the same meeting as he and his family did. He was the same age as me. We spent evenings playing squash and taking his dads E type Jaguar for a hoon through the hills around Upper Hutt. Lewis always struck me as a kind and gentle man (except on the squash court) with a good word for all. My condolences for his wife merle and their family and the wider family and friends. he touched many lives with his kindness boh in his private life and his business. There is more information on his FB business page, Swages Engineering Ltd.

Yes, very sad for Lewis' wife, 3 children, elderly mother, 2 brothers and sister. I assume they were on holiday.
Also tragic for his friend Royal Stewarts family.
Both in their 60's.
We are thinking of them all.

Thoughts are with the Stronge and Stewart families. After a lifetime of skilful and hard work, Lewis had only been fully retired for one month, and was on his much anticipated trip to Canada. I understand that Royal married the daughter of the former Didsbury Convention ground owner, and lived in the district since around 2003. Does anyone know if he was the grounds current owner? The accident apparently took place during convention, initial reports suggested that they were flying either too or from convention at the time.

Convention was on her grandparents land where Didsbury is held . It was sold after the car accident of her grandpa who passed away to a car accident . Ellen & Royal & Leta were living on the other farm . Not where Didsbury convention is held . Leta lost her husband about 10 years ago . Ellen also lost a brother (Calvin) in a automobile accident and another Marvin A in motorbike accident . Royal & Ellens daughter Deanna is a worker . Great memories . So sad ! Royal and Ellen moved from Calgary to help Ellen’s mom , Leta .
