I don't run from trouble, I prefer to deal with it head-on.
Your love affair with government is because they're sending you money every month, my hate for government is because they're emptying my pockets every month.
Surely you can relate to the difference, even if you've never experience getting sucked dry for money that you don't owe.
Pardon me for butting in but speaking for myself... I wouldn't say I have a love affair with government, but I do value its role in protecting us from harm whether it be foreign adversaries, fellow-citizens who are bad actors, or predatory capitalism. And I appreciate its role in providing a social safety net for those who need it. And none of that is because they're sending me money every month. Although they did send me a nice check in March-- but that was only because they decided I had paid too much tax for 2020.
My bad mood towards government emanates from the constant harassment. They sent me a notice fining me $150 per month for not paying unemployment taxes on the wages I paid over the last 11 months. Problem is, I didn't employ anyone over the past 11 months and there were no wages to pay tax on... They didn't care, they forfeited the interest, but still made me pay $1650 in late charges. I was fined for not paying taxes on wages I didn't pay, so no tax was even due! Then there's the quarterly 941 form penalty too, total fines paid for a business that I sold 8 months ago was $3098.00.. All paid in full today.. If I never hear from them again, it will be too soon.

So it is sliding into the night From this morning , we had not interacted with each other in the house . Not because our house is huge or we didn’t want to . We all are trying to get OURSELVES cognizant in each’s reality , as to the loss of a grandma/mom . We do cry together more when a reference by any of us about our most recent loss . Each person deals differently . However we gathered for supper , which we try to do everyday . It was chicken enchiladas , made by my son-in-law . We were all in a good space . We talked about her food choices and how picky she was about her food , while we ate . We had a laugh about it . We have gone back into our bubbles now . But smiling at the memories .

A quote for Anzac Day.
This is a day not of celebration but of National memory. It’s a day when we learn, and learn again, of the horror of purposeless war. It is a day for looking after your mates, cherishing your home, your neighbourhood and family. It’s a day for realising how rare this wonderful country of ours is and how precious it is.

“Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Forget about those who don’t. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would most likely be worth it.”

“My pain may be the reason for somebody's laugh. But my laugh must never be the reason for somebody's pain.” Charlie Chaplin Well, Mr. Redback since everyone is waxing poetic let me sober you up a degree or two: "Three Wooden Crosses" A farmer and a teacher, a hooker and a preacher, Ridin' on a midnight bus bound for Mexico. One's headed for vacation, one for higher education, An' two of them were searchin' for lost souls. That driver never ever saw the stop sign. An' eighteen wheelers can't stop on a dime. There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway, Why there's not four of them, Heaven only knows. I guess it's not what you take when you leave this world behind you, It's what you leave behind you when you go. That farmer left a harvest, a home and eighty acres, The faith an' love for growin' things in his young son's heart. An' that teacher left her wisdom in the minds of lots of children: Did her best to give 'em all a better start. An' that preacher whispered: "Can't you see the Promised Land?" As he laid his blood-stained bible in that hooker's hand. There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway, Why there's not four of them, Heaven only knows. I guess it's not what you take when you leave this world behind you, It's what you leave behind you when you go. That's the story that our preacher told last Sunday. As he held that blood-stained bible up, For all of us to see. He said: "Bless the farmer, and the teacher, an' the preacher; "Who gave this Bible to my mamma, "Who read it to me." There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway, Why there's not four of them, now I guess we know. It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you, It's what you leave behind you when you go. There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway.

Always know when to let go. When a thought is bringing you more misery than peace, let go of the thought; when a person is bringing more pain than joy to your life, let go… You cannot be your best if you lack joy and peace. Brigitte Nicole

No wonder you're in a bad mood! Did you engage a tax attorney on the unemployment taxes issue? I would have thought unemployment taxes owed would be a percentage of taxes paid. What was their rationale?

Unemployment taxes are a percentage of taxes paid.. But the penalty ($150 per month) was for filing late.. They didn't care whether any tax was actually due, your still required to file. Apparently, when you close or sell a business, your required to notify them. My failure to do so left me responsible to submit the forms up until the date that I officially told them the business was sold. Its the government, so they had no rationale. I could have called an attorney, but that would have cost more than the late filing fines. So I just bit the bullet and paid up. Now the anxiety and stress are gone and I'm sleeping like a dog at night.

I decided today that I've had about all I can take from worrying about this forum and will just work in the yard for while. l really like my little wild flower garden!
The dutchman's breeches and spring beauties have come & gone already, but the trilliums are in bloom, the wild ginger is up and my one little Jack-in the pulpit is still there! Every year I fear he won't appear again.
I gathered them all from when I use to go hunting for mushrooms in the spring. (always got more wild flowers than mushrooms! )
I am worn out now, but it a good "worn out!"

Yes TMB has become a bit toxic, which is a shame. Us older ones prefer better thoughts. Good for you Dmg, the garden is the best place to enjoy nature. Spring in your part of the World, a glorious time.
Some quotes how the garden is good for the soul.
“Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul.” Luther Burbank
“Keep love in your heart. A life without it is like a sunless garden when the flowers are dead.” Good Morning Quote
“Little things seem nothing, but they give peace, like those meadow flowers which individually seem odorless but all together perfume the air. .” Georges Bernanos

I did the same today, dmmichgood. Planted three tomato plants and 3 pepper plants. Also installed a second rain barrel to make more use of the rainfall when it comes. Tomorrow I rebuild part of a low rock wall around a small pond. So great to be outdoors.

Gardening is therapeutic on so many levels. Just being around nature can improve your mood, making you feel more at peace. The act of digging, planting, and watering can help take your mind off of the stresses of daily life.
Nature is my God. We have the opportunity here and now, grasp onto it, you will be on a winner.
