I'll probably make a fool of myself for asking this question; but, I'd like to interact with as many on this board to settle this question in my mind.
It says in one place of the Bible that life is a prescious gift.
Yet, that he who is a lover of this life shall lose it.
I'll look up my references as soon as I can.
What is the meaning of the words " ... he who loves his life shall lose it ...?"
I've thanked GOD endless times for bestowing up on my the gift of life, allowing me to experience life and blessing me with an identical twin.
I just can't understand then why GOD would tell us " ... he who loves his life shall lose it .. !"
Can someone break this down for me and cause it to make sense?
I sure would like to know what this all means.

Whoever loves his life will lose it, but whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

I was listening to the ‘happiness hour’ yesterday that Dennis Prager does each Friday. His theme was the eventual well being of children raised bathed with blanket love and praise and permission versus children who were raised to acquire the character and skills necessary to be healthy adults. He said that kids should be taught to fight their natures, where such nature wants things without any consideration for how one must weather or cope with the denial or unattainability of such things. I remember being torn when I was raising my children, with knowing how to balance the course of blessing of their sweet dreams and wants and with introducing the larger reality of life which involves downsizing, as every precious child’s soul first relates to wants and dreams, and must learn to accept some level of attenuation therefrom.
The scripture is probably most applicable to people God summons in special ways to represent him. You may have or have had one vision of your life at some time, but God has another and proceeds to impose it, sort of thing.

I just can't understand then why GOD would tell us " ... he who loves his life shall lose it .. !" Can someone break this down for me and cause it to make sense? I sure would like to know what this all means. Those scriptures mean that our life in this world has to go, meaning the love of the things in this world and ways of this world and the lusts of the flesh should be dying to us, this is death to self. If we turn from sin and the ways of the world, we will find the life of God and his life and love will save our lives. This is losing our life to save it. But if we put our flesh first and put our life before God and live our life in the ways of this world, loving and building up in it and carry on with the wilful sinning, lusting after the flesh when we know the truth, then we will lose our life in God. God's spirit will only stay with those who are willing to obey him, obey his word and live by his will. Jesus said, those who are not willing to pick up their cross daily are not worthy of him. And those who do truly pick up their cross daily strive against sin and obey the word of God and live it. They are not only hearers of the word, but they are doers of the word also, and as a doer of the word they will live it out in word and deed. And in doing so the light of Christ and love of God will shine through them as Christ is lived out in their lives daily. You will know them by their fruits, and if they are truly following Jesus, you will see the image of Christ Jesus in and through them, because they will be dead to self, their life in the flesh will be gone, they will be dead and hid with Christ and the Spirit of Christ will live in them and his light will shine through them. They will be losing their lives to find this precious life of God, and this world and the ways of it will mean nothing to them because they will love God from their hearts and they will live to please God first, and they will love and care about others as Jesus did.

I’m good with the dying thing to get to God, so long as we don’t lose sight of the fact God first loved us and created us before we either loved or conceived of him.
