Clothing Hair entertainment technology during worship divorce and remarriage marrying an outsider decorating for holidays
and so many other issues.
Overseers respect each other's territory. Reporting one to another one won't get you far. You are supposed to submit, fit in and don't question authority. Or at least disregard the orders in a quiet manner. If you try to work up the meeting crowd, you will be silenced.
There are some dogs in my neighborhood who will snap at you if you are near their territory but they don't venture onto the other dogs' territory. Some who weren't born into the system don't realize that and think they can pressure change but it doesn't happen overnight.
I once thought that perfect harmony existed among overseers.

I once thought that perfect harmony existed among overseers. I guess when you think of it, there never has been, hence the split with William Irvine.

yeah. I didn't know Mr. Irvine existed until I found the so called "enemy" websites. When I was in university, I stayed with an elder and his wife. (actually I was assigned to the home by the workers) I had been at the library a few times and one day the elder said "it's all good if you're going there, as long as you're not looking up the wrong things like XYZ". I didn't know at the time who XYZ was and what was being looked up. When I found out that, I found out everything. Little did he know that in a way, he pushed me to do it!

yeah. I didn't know Mr. Irvine existed until I found the so called "enemy" websites. I knew someone existed and had a few names but they were a bit mixed up.
But I had already known something of the sort had existed even as a small child from listening to my mother & father talking together at a time when people didn't pay much attention to the fact that children may be listening!

We owe a lot to Doug and Helen Parker who because of the meticulous research they made, over a period of years to ferret out the Truth. Their book "The Secret Sect" blew the line, "From the shores of Galilee" right out of the water. Workers had to drop that line when it was revealed it was a big porky.
Should have bought 100 copies then, would have been an added investment.

He mentioned a book called The Secret Sect. I did an internet search and found the old VOT website. The rest is history.

yeah. I didn't know Mr. Irvine existed until I found the so called "enemy" websites. What led you to find them? For me, it was after I left (1996) and someone said "Why, was it the internet?" I went "Oh, yeah." And promptly went and looked everything up, ordered the books available at that time, which included The Impartial Reporter articles and Reflections and The Secret Sect. I poured over every poorly copied Impartial Reporter article, and somehow these were extremely meaningful and liberating to me. My need to absorb everything was so great that I even used to drive away from work at lunchtime, and park, so that I could read more. Very grateful, to this day, for the people who poured time and effort into the books and websites. It wasn't the reason why I left, I was gone for many other reasons, but it sure helped give me a sense of perspective.

When I found this forum on the internet it was interesting that when I learned about William Irvine I was extremely angry. It made me angry that my parents had been lied to and wasted their entire life believing their religion was the only true religion because they believed it wasn't 'founded' like other Christian denominations, but rather 'went back to the shores of Galilee'. I don't know how many times they defended their stance that no one that wasn't professing and baptized by the workers were going to heaven, because of their belief it was not 'founded'.
