www.stuff.co.nz/national/100281444/fire-destroys-historic-aurum-homestead-in-skippers-canyon-queenstownColin's extended whanau owned Mt Aurum Station. This is a high country station set in harsh mountainous country. Colin spent quite a bit of time here. I remember him preaching for Sunday after Sunday on Revelations. His niece in law? Terri McNicol wrote several books about the area. The area is rich in high country farming history along with mountaineering and gold mining. There also seems to be another link with the friendlies with the Schieb? family owning land and business's in the area. There was a worker called Ernie Schieb. Nz friendlies care to comment?

The best known book I think was 'Beyond the Skippers Road' by Terri. There was a copy of it in our house when I was young. Colin wrote the hymn 'Sing to me the songs of zion'. I didn't know the Scheibs were in any way linked to Skippers - I don't remember that at all - not saying you are wrong- just I don't know anything about it. The Scheibs who were in the work were Jim (now deceased), Violet (in NZ), Philippa (was in work in Sri Lanka, now married in Australia). I think you are getting mixed up with Ernie Seyb - totally different family.

I forgot to say that one of Terri's sons lives in Te Awamutu and was a sawmiller. His name was John McNicol He remembered Colin when I talked to him about the family.

Yes, sad that historical home burnt to the ground. Saw it on the news last night. I think a similar thing happened to another historical homestead down there last year. Vaguely remember Colin Mc; a tall guy. Highly likely linked to the Scheibs. You’ll work it out. Cheers.
