While there ARE many hymns in the 2&2 preacher’s hymn book, many of them have been appropriated from other collections, having nothing in common with the 2&2. This is the case of this hymn “Softly and Tenderly” written by Will Thompson. (1850 as I recall) Once I enjoyed singing such hymns. Since learning about the true authors, I have had no less pleasure in them.
In preparing this house for its ongoing remodeling, Katie has brought a parcel of instruments I once played for me to deal with. SMILE! Anyone wishing to obtain Violins, guitars, mandolins, viola, Piano, Electric Organ, electric keyboard, Cymbols, Bones, saws, (Cello, Base already gone.) Some are rather old. Really wish I had folks either wanting to buy or have one or more of them. My favorite Viola is pictured in Famous Instruments made by American Artisans. They all have had extensive use — some on several continents. Anyone interested? Next I will have to be dealing with Art and Enfineering supplies and equipment...sigh!

Wow Dennis! I didn't know that you are a musician. I play guitar and keyboards to a modest degree.

I agree but be careful not to upset a certain poster for singing hymns on this discussion forum as I inadvertantly did.

Not really good at it like many, better than a few... Would rather listen to you and others. Smile. Now very limited in such activities, as my body goes the way of all flesh.

HI Dennis,1880 actually by Will Thompson. 16 years before William Irvine denounced John Wesley as a false teacher.A little later sacking one of his disciple preachers for refusing to preach that "John Wesley would be burning in hell". That founder of what we know today as the 2x2s,one of the most judgemental sects of the last 100 plus years. The sect that judges it's mob by their submission to them and that includes visual demands. Sort of sad. NO that is not a "meet'n"hymn,it is sung by liberated Christians all over the world.. Seeing it was written by an unsaved follower of a false religion as we were, and 2x2s still are, taught, you had better stop singing it,cause the Holy Spirit may Zap ya'.
