Sorry for you and your families illness. Hope you all feel better soon. Perhaps it was Norovirues - the most common cause of acute gastroenteritis. On average, noroviruses cause 19 million to 21 million cases of acute gastroenteritis in the U.S. per year, according to the CDC.

That was quite a round. I got my flu shot 2 days ago, but they can't guarantee that it's ready for everything that shows up throughout the season. Hope you all make a get back to normal right away, I hate being sick to my stomach.

Sorry to hear you and your family have been so sick. I guess they missed whatever you had in the vaccine this year. [/quote]The causes of various types of gastroenteritis are not part of the influenza vaccine. This is generally a "WASH YOUR HANDS" illness. The type of illness that can turn a holiday cruise into a week of torture. And virtually everyone holds the hand rail on a ship that has a little roll or yaw. On average, each ill person will infect about 15 more unless strict hygiene measures are in place.

It might help save you from gastro and the common cold if it is that season for you. I used it excessively after touching anything this winter as there seemed to be sick people all about, even my hubby caught two colds and I managed to avoid both.

I carry a disposable hazmat suit and a portable HAZ/MAT Decon Shower! There is some question about developing resistant bacteria, especially the ones that are not alcohol based. I frequently deal with grandchildren and use the ones that contains alcohol, rather than an anti-bacterial. Of course, in the home soap and water do a much better job and also remove dirt and other substances. Avoiding touching your mouth, nose, or eyes does help a lot but I have seen people who have drifted far beyond the pale and might actually don the hazmat suit! Exposure to bacteria is the only way that the immune system can be built up.

I never knew there were ANY bacteria that are alcohol based -- and I certainly didn't know that the bacteria that are not alcohol based are more likely to be resistant. I'd have thought the alcohol-based bacteria would be more resistant. And I think you should use grandchildren that do NOT contain alcohol, although using the ones that contain alcohol probably means they take longer naps, which could be a good thing, I guess.

Oh yes, there is the well known Ethanerichia pneumatiae which is alcohol based and found exclusively on the handles of jack-hammers. You have to keep up, Gene. They contain enough ethanol that I use them as carriers to smuggle tax-free alcohol into the US. It is true that the naps can be for multiple days but if you have spent time in a car with three year old children chanting about bottles of beer that may or may not be on the walls sleep is a good thing - for either the adults or the children.
