Does anyone have an overall update to give on the WINGS submission to the Royal Commission in Australia? (Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse).
I understand that victims could choose to have private hearings, but would be interested to know how many stories related to the Two-by-Two group may have been heard by the Commission, or if they are still to heard.

No Elizabeth, I believe private hearings are on the cards for anyone,if needed. "BUT" George Pell has at last been charged. Ballarat was a horrible CSA place, and at the same time,in Ballarat a very Senior Policeman 2x2 was also disgraced. Magpie

www.childabuseroyalcommission.gov.au/The final report from the almost five-year royal commission into child sexual abuse was officially handed to the Governor-General this morning. The document is tens of thousands of pages long, and contains a total of 409 recommendations which aim to make institutions safer for children. Here are some of the biggie Recommendations: Here are a few recommendations that could affect 2x2 Workers Source: 15 recommendations from the royal commission into child sexual abuse you should know aboutFor religious institutions: The ministry of churches (not just the Catholic Church) should not be exempt from reporting information discovered in religious confession. Any religious organisation with a rite of religious confession should implement a policy that confession for children be conducted in an open space and in a clear line of sight of another adult. The Australian Catholic Church should request permission from the Vatican to introduce voluntary celibacy for diocesan clergy. Candidates for religious ministry should undergo external psychological testing, including psychosexual assessment, to determine their suitability to be in the ministry and to undertake work involving children. Any person in religious ministry who is the subject of a complaint of child sexual abuse which is substantiated ... or who is convicted of an offence relating to child sexual abuse, should be permanently removed from ministry.

I don't see it as celibacy, but rather a place where these guys can operate and stay hidden, protected and moved if caught. Religious positions are a great cover for them. Everyone is so busy thinking they are the 'best' of humans that they tend to disregard warning flags as being impossible with these guys.

It's hard to know, but both a job as a RCC priests or a 2x2 worker would make a great hiding spot for those so inclined to "prey" on children. Too often celibate preachers who "pray", also "prey". It looks like the new figure is 7% of them.

If there is one thing I am sick of hearing and which is very damaging is the misconception that CELEBACY is the cause of paedophilia. Real paedophiles are ones who's primary sexual attraction is towards children younger than 13 (according to a definition I read) and are also 5 or more years younger than the abuser. I know quite a few married men (I know this pertains to women as well) who are real paedophiles and I know quite a few single men who are not. I agree - being a preacher of any religion - great place to hide out if you have these tendencies. Lots of children at your disposal - more so for workers who live in the children's homes. Being married - also a great place to hide out. Parents will send their children to a home of a married couple with a lot less qualms than the home of a single man. FORCED CELEBACY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!!! Very true, celibacy has nothing to do with a pedophile diagnosis. Also labeling those who sexually abuse children as pedophiles without the actual diagnosis, is not beneficial. Some are, but some aren't.

But why would anyone without this primary sexual urge even WANT to touch a child? Even if they were the only 'objects' available? I couldn't think of anything worse or more repulsive to do - and I'm sure anyone with 'normal' sexual urges couldn't either. Anyone that doesn't have the ability to feel empathy perhaps? Sociopaths? I agree it's not 'normal'. However a diagnosis of pedophile is required in order to understand what can or cannot be done. Will counselling work, not likely. There is no known way at the moment other than chemical castration or jail to keep them away from kids. We had one come through the half way house I was working at for awhile and we had a few long chats about what it was like to be him. It made me realize a lot of things I never gave much thought to before. He stated that if he had the chance he would do it again, and he really didn't want to do it again. He is one of the ones that asked for chemical castration because he knew he would do it again if given the chance. So it's good to know because it gives us an idea of what needs to be done.
