As I was driving through Salmon Arm today, I just caught a portion of a sign by the roadside. What I managed to glimpse were the words "Gospel Tent Meeting" and July 14 & 15th.
Does anyone know if this refers to the Salmon Arm convention being held this weekend? If it does, it would be the first time I've heard of a sign announcing a convention. Or maybe it's just a coincidence & another group is also holding their "tent meetings" this weekend as well ......
Just curious.

It's not uncommon in the US to place small signs pointing to "Convention-->"

It's not uncommon in the US to place small signs pointing to "Convention-->" I remember years ago the Silverdale, B.C. convention also had signs with the word "convention" & an arrow pointing the way. As a casual observer I don't think I would have taken any notice of such a sign. The sign I saw today was more explicit -- using the words "Gospel tent meetings", & giving dates. To me, that created the possibility of outsiders showing up to see what what going on. My understanding is that conventions are for the f&w's to get away from 'the world'. Any non-professing person who attends would have some connection to the group, or an interest in joining. I imagined the stir it would cause if a car full of outsiders saw that sign and wondered what a "tent meeting" was. Maybe they'd decide to check it out, showing up in tattered jean shorts, scruffy shirt & a smelly baseball cap -- bottle of Canadian beer in hand!!

I don't know if it refers to the 'truth' or not.
Salmon Arm convention is in a building not a tent.

There's nothing unusual about "outsiders" coming to convention, the'yre welcomed and embraced.

I don't know if it refers to the 'truth' or not. Salmon Arm convention is in a building not a tent. Thanks for that info dea. I couldn't remember if the meetings at Salmon Arm were in a tent or building. It must be some other group -- I wish I had seen the sign earlier, as I'm curious as to who advertises in such a way. Eurp: I've attended spiritual 'retreats', and I've found that such are basically a gathering for believers who meet together regularly during the year. As such, it's possibly not the ideal place for a 'stranger' or non-believer. My memory of conventions would fall into the same category. My post wasn't meant to "bash" conventions. I have nothing but good memories of attending conventions in my professing days, and I loved the places where meetings were in tents.
