You sure couldn't get that many young people in a SE US convention like Cassatt, Metter, Knoxville, Jackson, Effie, Fosters, Salvisa, Apopka, Demorest, or Rogers.

Heat & Air - my, my ... that would have been welcome in the meeting tent. Those look like evaporative air coolers, also known as swamp coolers. They are much less expensive than standard compressive air conditioners to buy and run. Basically, it's just a big squirrel cage fan inside that box; the three outside walls of the box are fitted with absorbent excelsior pads, which is kept wet by a small water pump in the base of the box which circulates water through the pads. As the fan pulls air in through the pads and out into the building, evaporation cools the air by as much as 20 degrees Fahrenheit. A fresh water feed into the box, including a float valve, replenishes the water lost to evaporation. This system only works in areas with relatively low humidity.

Is this photo recent? It seems to be a trend at the moment to ask for people under a certain age to assemble for a group convention photo.

I was thinking heat pumps - but chances are - you are correct in your assessment of what they really are. (We had a water cooler in our farm house - I should have recognized the ones in the photo as such ... )

Because they sell pictures of all the workers in Sunday morning meetings. never had to buy one yet and mine come in the post A few years ago, we started paying 10 cents a photo, just to pay for the paper it was on and the ink that it took to print it. The last time I bought a photo I paid a dollar, still to pay for the special photo paper and ink to print it.....the friends usually are the ones who take and produce and copy the photos for the convs. and there may be some friends who would not ask for reimbursement, in some of these smaller friended states we just didn't have that many friends that rich that couple incur such costs and not eventually feel it because once a photo is out, there comes demands from people that weren't at the conv., etc sometimes many go to foreign field workers, etc. I would think though a person received their's in the mail with out request for re=imbursement, it would be a lovely thing for those who could afford it to offer to send a small amount of money to whomever is copying them.

Been there, and if it's hot and humid, they give marginal relief. Not complaining!

Because they sell pictures of all the workers in Sunday morning meetings. never had to buy one yet and mine come in the post I have also never heard of photos being sold. The elder of the meeting would just give out photos after a Sunday morning meeting, just like meeting lists are given out.

Ellie ~ Could that be to encourage the young people to hang around a little longer than expected, since there has been such a major exodus of young people due to information about the 2x2's on Internet?

Maja ~ I remember free copies being hung out in meeting, too, and wondered if they were now charging for these pictures, since I've been out of the fold almost 20 years.

Hang around to be in the picture? I don't think so... usually the "notice" goes out (by word of mouth) Sat. eve. or Sunday morning at breakfast with a time and place. Lucky if they (usually a FB mom?) can convince most of the kids to be on it!

A picture of workers is usually done, -but pictures of a certain age group,- especially children?
Could that be so someone can say, "See, we are still keeping the children- they aren't leaving the 2X2's like some people want to imply."

I think so because I can think of 3 or 4 of my facebook friends posting this one when the ones of my local convention never get shared! I imagine that some of these young people are from Minnesota and attending conventions before school begins. South Dakota doesn't have that many friends today. Tons of professing folks in Minneapolis-St. Paul.

It explains why there seemed to be more than usual.
Reinforces my perception of why such a photo was taken.
In my day such a photo of young people would have been frowned upon as it might make the young feel too important and in danger of being proud!
My point is perhaps the reason people took the photo & posted it so many times was so it would indicate to others (and help themselves believe) that the young people aren't leaving the 2X2's.

Exactly like here Ours just changed this year ironically enough. Until this year, they always took orders who wanted what size, and the prices were given. You paid when they came in and were distributed by the Sun mtg elders. This year for the first time ever, they were free. I think the Sunday mtg elders were just give the JPEG file, and printed them for their meeting.
