One of my students informed me that the word is spelled: C-A-T-H-L-I-C-K.

Xna ~ Do you think that chain in the picture represents a rosary or a DNA thread ~ or the combination of both, since it's entitled, "From Faith to Reason?"

DMG ~ I think that carton is trying to convey that what men use to think with (head) is usually below the belt as they near adulthood and afterward? Sounds like a reasonable answer to me, all points considered. LOL

Bob ~ Bill Maher may be speaking the truth in jest here? Exactly, how many people do you believe are actually familiar with what's found within the Bible or read their Bible, including both the OT and the NT? I would guess few within the general population, since they rely on others to supply their daily scriptural needs through church instruction or devotionals? Like most things in life, I reckon few in number really explore the Bible for themselves to see what's really contained within its pages, but take the word of others instead? JMT

Well yes, Maher is a comedian, but what he said is really true. I have a book here called Religious Literacy, written by a Boston University Religious Studies professor, and it's VERY interesting, to say the least. The amusing part is that non-Christians often do much better than devout Bible Christians on tests.

You think I'm a dumb a--?
You are the one keeps saying how smart I am for my age!
DMG ~ Just teasing you. I figured you got the meaning of the post early on? I still think you're pretty sharp for your age and can hold our own with the rest us and perhaps better at times, in spite of your advancing years. I only hope I'm as sharp at your age, if I live that long?

The amusing part is that non-Christians often do much better than devout Bible Christians on tests. Bob ~ Are you referring to their knowledge of the Bible, since you refer to a book entited, Religious Literacy? I wouldn't be surprised, considering I have found some atheists/agnostics more knowledgeable about the Bible than professing Christians on more than one occasion. In fact, that's what's generated my remark above. Also, it seems that the more devout Christians who are very familiar with their Bible, are also the first to recognize the discrepancies as they occur within their reading. In addition, some of the books I have read by Bible scholars who profess to be agnostics or atheists, were at one time devout Christians within conservative Bible colleges. Bart Ehrman is one name that immediately comes to mind as a fundamentalist Christian who became an agnostic/athiest over time. I have read a number of his books on early Christianity and I'm always amazed at his command of scripture and ability to see things that have escaped my attention before. His last book, "How Jesus Became God," has really been a fasinating read for me, bringing to light some scriptures from the gospel accounts that I never gave much thought to before, but now can visual in a different light due to Bible literacy evaluation techniques.
