A copy and paste from WINGS Breaking the Silence Message Board:
WINGS welcomes the recent establishment of a Royal Commission to investigate child abuse with Australia. Unfortunately we are well aware, through the contact made by readers here, that there have been instances of child abuse over the past decades.
We see the Royal Commission as an opportunity for victims and their loved ones to acknowledge that this abuse has occurred. This is not an attempt to target specific workers or the "friends" as a group. There is much about this fellowship which should be praised and appreciated.
We understand that the Royal Commission has no power to prosecute offenders, however, they may refer specific cases to the relevant authorities. It will then be the responsibility of the victim to pursue legal options should they wish to do so.
WINGS will be making a submission to the Royal Commission on your behalf. At the moment we are collecting individuals' stories and preparing to address the Terms of Reference.
If you are interested in making a submission to the Royal Commission through WINGS please contact one of the admins through a private message or email Scott Ross: bescottross@gmail.com
