Just wondering how many are planning to read "Holy Ghost Girl"? How many have already read it? We've had an excellent kick-off with the Life of Pi, and if the next one is half as successful, I'll be happy.

LOL. Why am I not surprised? I wish I could read as often and as freely as you do, DD. What's your secret. I do read, but often after a hectic day at work, I'll blow too much time watching Netflix, posting on TMB or Facebook, or playing 'free cell'. I never feel I've wasted time after an evening of reading.

My secret? I feel naked without a book. I am terrified of the day I get stuck in traffic, or waiting for a dentist, with no book. Oh...how about getting a haircut with no book to read? How enormously uncomfortable would that be??

I plan to read it, but need to track down the book. It has been an exceptionally busy holiday week for us!
(Incidentally, I couldn't seem to log in a bit earlier - will try again now.)

There's still plenty of time. Unfortunately, it's not yet available in paperback. I plan to get the Kindle version. For one thing, I'll have it instantly.

Well, I just obtained my Kindle copy of Holy Ghost Girl, and that's what I'm doing this weekend at our trailer. It's freaky how easy it is to order a Kindle book. You push one button, and 3 seconds later it's on your Kindle. Wonder how others are coming?

We can defer the discussion a few days, although it would be good to know who is interested.
I read the entire book Friday evening and yesterday, so it's a fairly easy read. Yes, this is a 'must read'. It's not the kind of book I would normally pick off the shelf, which is the great thing about a reading group; it makes life more interesting to ride along with someone else's choices.
It's a very, very engaging story, told straight up, how it happened, without much analysis, recrimination or criticism.
Anyway, I'm on a public access point with 5 minutes left on my battery so I'll sign off.

Hi, are either Life of Pi or this one Holy Ghost Girl available for sharing or loaning thru the Kindle program ? Thanks. I originally discovered the (paper copy) Holy Ghost Girl sitting on the shelf at my local library in the "recommended" section. It's not currently available in the library's eBook lending program. Have you checked your local library for Holy Ghost Girl? Even if you don't have a card, you can probably spend an hour reading the book to see if it's something you want to spend $12 (USA) for the Kindle version. For about $8 you can get a used copy from Amazon. www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/1592406300/The Life of Pi is available as an eBook loan from my local library, but there are more than 10 people on the waiting list for 2 copies.

Now that you mention used books, try www.thriftbooks.com. Life of Pi for $4, and Holy Ghost Girl for $8, and that includes shipping within the USA. And there is always www.abebooks.com. You always have to be careful about shipping costs on that site.

This conversation sounds interesting and so I went to the library to see if they had a copy of the book. They didn't. I may buy a copy tomorrow if I can find it downtown and enter in the conversation.
I too struggled to get through Life of Pi and ended up stopping. my second try and still can't do it.

My ex-neighbour is a retired schoolteacher and avid reader; same reaction to Life of Pi. So there is definitely something about that book. Anyway, what a dull world it would be if we all liked the same things.
