This is just to see if our June 11 kick off date is realistic, and gauge how many plan to take part in the discussion. Feel free to discuss your progress or lack of progress on the above.

There's no category for "got the book, but have two in front of it first." Don't worry, I'll have it read by June 11, lol.

I'm also not sure if you should select option 1 or 2. I would just select option 1. It certainly looks like we're going to have a quorum of 5 or so for the discussion. Of course, the more the merrier.

So all you workers out there that read here on the board go get the book and join in!!!

I found my copy on my bookshelf. I think I read it for the first time back in 2005, so it has survived 4 moves...
I'll start rereading it as soon as I finish Undaunted Courage by Stephen Ambrose (100 pages to go).

Also visited Beacon Rock further downstream.

Whatchoo doin there, what? Isn't the gorge beautiful? Multnomah falls? Mount Hood? Hey, I miss Oregon. Yup. Went to the Multnomah Falls. Couldn't entice anyone to hike to the top though. Day before we went to Silver Falls, and the day before that we hiked up to Heceta Head Lighthouse and then down to the beach on the north side. Later we hiked up to the top of Cape Perpetua. Along with a visit to factory outlets south of Portland, and a meal in Portland and the other places mentioned above, that was Oregon in 3 days!

I've already read this book, and will be interested in what people have to say.

I've already read this book, and will be interested in what people have to say. And based on your past posts, we'll be very interested in your perspective, should you feel inclined to provide it.

Done re-reading. My opinion on the concluding chapters of the book is different this time, partly because I had a different perspective in reading the author's notes which are sprinkled throughout the book. (can't say why, because I don't want to write any spoilers!)

Finished reading. I'm, um, a little nervous about this one. Naturally, it struck a chord with me.

I've finished-absolutely great book.
Got to have some time to digest it before I comment on it.

It was a fantastic story! Glad I read it.
But what to comment? I'm not sure WHAT I'm susposed to comment on. There was readers guide in my book, but it seemed superficial at times.
I particularly loved the story of Pi as a child being interested in the different religions; Hindu, Christian & Muslim, then becoming a member of each.
Also when the the priest, the iman, & the pandit found out, they got into an agrument over Pi & their different religions & and told Pi COULDN'T be all the religions. He would have to choose one. Pi stated "I just want to "love God' That embarressed everyone, including the three wise men who left grudgingly.
There is too much to comment in one try. Also will I be giving away the plot?

Hi dm, We'll be kicking off a discussion thread on Monday. (Although I have to check with our moderators, which I will tonight.) There'll be some questions to kick off the discussion so stay tuned. We won't worry about "spoilers" in the thread, assuming that everyone has already read the book.

Would it be possible to make a subboard for each book?
I imagine that there might be a few different discussions in parallel.

Would it be possible to make a subboard for each book? I imagine that there might be a few different discussions in parallel. Do you mean a new thread for each book? We'll certainly do that. I don't see a need for a new sub-board each time, but perhaps I'm missing something.

I think the sub-boards idea is great, but I don't think "what" or I have authority to create them. We're just moderators.
Many times a book will have several themes which can be discussed separately, or chapters present different topics, or study questions in the book make for good subboard issues. I like the idea.

Many times a book will have several themes which can be discussed separately, or chapters present different topics, or study questions in the book make for good subboard issues. I like the idea. I will strive diligently to keep the thread titles in some semblance of uniformity. However, I'm somehow missing the purpose of multiple sub-boards. Why not just have multiple threads, and offer one stop shopping in one TMB Book sub-board?
