Risk Level & Designation Determination
Upon release to the community following a conviction for a registerable offense, a sex offender is required to register with the Division of Criminal Justice Services. In order to determine the level of community notification and duration of registration, a hearing is held by the sentencing court. After examining the facts in a particular case, including, but not limited to, the use of force, weapons, alcohol or drugs, victim's age, number of victims, assault or injury of the victim and relationship to the victim, the court makes a determination regarding the offender's level of notification, commonly called the risk level. The risk level is based on the court's assessment regarding whether a particular offender is likely to repeat the same or similar registerable offense and the danger the offender poses to the community. Because the risk level reflects factors unique to a particular sex offender, offenders convicted of the same offense may receive different risk levels.
The court may assign one of the following three risk levels:
Level 1 (low risk of repeat offense), or
Level 2 (moderate risk of repeat offense), or
Level 3 (high risk of repeat offense and a threat to public safety exists).
This man scares me personally!! I've known him from the time he was first 'in the work' literally. My (then) husband and I were in the area visiting relatives, and attended his first ever gospel mtg. as a worker. After my husband died, Darren wrote to me several times, but I didn't reply. In 2009, I chanced to see him at Altamont Convention. He seemed overly friendly, in a way which made (cynical) me think that he was looking for a ready made home situation, aka a woman to marry who was already established with a home etc. After one conversation, I studiously avoided him. Unbeknownst to me, he'd had a conversation with my mother, telling her that 'Shosho needs to get married to provide a good father for her child.' While telling me this enroute home, my mother said that she'd told him it was none of HER concern, that I'd been an adult for many years previously.
He called my parent's home for me several times. The last time, I was there and (I was upstairs at a phone without caller ID), I answered and spoke to him. I informed him that I was not only NOT looking for a husband, but was in fact already married... I heard that he was dating a young lady in FL, who hadn't been married, but who has a young child.
Fast forward to 2011, I learn that he is a convicted sex offender. Shudder. I wonder what his motives were in those conversations and in his relationship with ** According to the NY sex offender registry website, he is a likely re-offender, a threat to society.
THESE PEOPLE DO NOT BELONG IN MEETINGS!! THEY DO NOT BELONG AT CONVENTIONS!!! WHAT on earth might JF have been thinking, to send him back to NY without a word to anyone as to why he was no longer in the work??? I saw him at 2 conventions before learning about him on the TMB! I have lost too much sleep already over this.
Thank G-D there ARE people willing to disseminate information about these people! Otherwise, we'd never know. It bothers me that we regularly hear gossip about innocent people, passed on in visits to my elderly, unwell parents by the workers, but on the subjects which NEED to be discussed? NOTHING. There really must be some form of accountability! PROTECT THE CHILDREN IF YOU CARE AT ALL!!! I have heard countless times that "The little children are the hope of the kingdom"... SO? DO SOMETHING ON THEIR BEHALF THEN!!! THE RIGHT THING!!! Remove those people from the fellowship, AND TELL EVERYONE WHY!!!
