I just recieved a call from my dear Aunt that Vernon Spinner had passed away this morning and his funeral will be this wednesday, November 10, in Marshalltown, Iowa at the Mitchell funeral home. He'd been in failing health- I'm sure others have better info than I on this- and wasn't expected to go on much longer. So good old Vernon has gone on home.. .I'm sure there are lot's of stories that can be told about Vernon.. a grand old man!

What a humble man. He was in our home many times when we were first married. He was one of the first to welcome us to Iowa. My wife and I both worked, so he would "make lunch". It was always interesting what we came home to. He had all kinds of things bubbling away in the crock pot. I always called it "Pioneer's stew". He never got worked up about anything. Hadn't seen or heard anything about him for several years, so glad for this posting, as we get no news from any of the shunning friends anymore.

Vernon wrote us a letter when we exited meeting. He told us that when climbing a mountain and you fall off you take others with you. Glad we did. All our children saw the light and left meetings also. We were told by friends in the area that Vernon had told them to leave us alone. We would get lonely and come back. Effective way to perpetuate the shunning.
