Thanks OM. I have vague but fond memories of Ivan. He was a friend to my parents and respected for his kind spirit.

From the Milltown 1 Convention, Sunday, August 15, 2004 (Morning Session) | Ivan Shackleton's Testimony | Hymn chosen: #24 - "From Every Stain" (Topic: Calvary & Cross) Testimony Topic: Being a Child of God | Simplicity / Pure Heart & Pure Mind | Being Spiritually Awake
Ephesians 1:4-6:
4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
You need to be a child of God to understand grace. We need to look beyond the kingdom of heaven.
If we’re not of this world, we’re part of the kingdom of heaven.
The kingdom is a pure and holy place. We’re here to be made clean – free from stain. We need to be pure in heart and through Jesus we’re cleansed from all sin. Keep a pure mind.
Sometimes our prayers are earthbound and not beneficial to us. Sometimes before we pray- we already have the answer in our mind. However, when we pray- we should go with an empty mind and heart and God will then speak to us.
Having simplicity- to believe it as it is written. Sometimes we look for justification. That’s not right.
We read the Bible in its simplicity and accept it all as it is.
We need to be careful about our steps (i.e. the media / social media, etc.) Having a pure conscience… so, we never let our “conscience” be “our guide” because it can lead us into problems.
Example:
Two Japanese women and I were in Japan standing along a dirt road waiting for the bus to come. The bus came and the women bowed to me to let me get on first. I bowed back because in our custom it was taught to be women and children first (unlike their custom where it is taught to put men first). After a couple of times of bowing- the bus driver drove away.
We need a conscience given to us by God… by being born again and to teach us what’s is right and what is in His spirit. We need to put the world’s lust, greed, envy, etc.- all to one side.
We are like adopted children. God has sent His son to come and get us.
Ephesians 1:7:
7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
God planned redemption long before He sent His son. This earth is just a testing ground. Love was born into us. When Ruth’s husband died and she brought back her husband, she slept at the feet of Boaz- for he was the one that could redeem her. Everyday (especially Sunday) we should give our all.
Ruth 3:8-13:
8 And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet. 9 And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman. 10 And he said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter: for thou hast shewed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich. 11 And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman. 12 And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I. 13 Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman's part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as the LORD liveth: lie down until the morning.
Boas awakened at midnight and wanted for Ruth to lift up her skirt and he would redeem her. She would then be in the fellowship with God and His wings.
In Australia, the rice fields were burnt and one chicken was burnt to death in the field; but under the chicken there were 4 little chicks. It’s like Jesus taking us under His wings.
1 Corinthians 11:24-27:
24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. 27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
Note the 24th verse… “You do this in remembrance of me.” You partake of these emblems worthily – bread for the life – the broken body also… both for Christ, and wine for the blood of Christ.
We should first examine ourselves. For instance, you should probably say… “During the past week, did I forget to forgive someone? or “Did lust take over my body?”
If we’re not worthy while taking of the emblems- it is our own damnation. Pray the night before, morning also… pray multiple times in the day. Examine ourselves and ask God to cleanse us and forgive us all.
Jesus gave His life for us so that we would know eternal salvation.
When we’re spiritually sick, it’s hard to get up and pray, go to Meetings, etc. So, we want to be awake for the coming of Christ.
Keep the world separate than the world that is the kingdom of heaven.

From the Boring II Convention, Friday, September 3, 2004 (Afternoon Session) | Ivan Shackleton's Testimony | Hymn chosen: #2 - "More About Jesus" (Topic: Jesus' Story) Testimony Topic: Knowing More About Jesus and Practicing The Ways (Living The Life) of Jesus
Leviticus 2:3:
3 And the remnant of the meat offering shall be Aaron's and his sons': it is a thing most holy of the offerings of the LORD made by fire.
Matthew 5:13:
13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Mark 9:49-50:
49 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. 50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
Matthew 5:
In Matthew 5, there are 8 “I say unto you” verses in that chapter. Matthew 5, 6, and 7 is something we should believe in before professing… faith, love, and a willingness to sacrifice. Have a pure conscience and a soft heart.
Matthew 5:21-24: (That’s Principle #1.)
21 Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: 22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. 23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; 24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
Make each faithful saying (that Jesus said) mine. Keep peace (no anger / control our feelings). [Be the peacemaker, not a peace-breaker.] Anger, righteous indignation… it’s not righteous with God. Everything is forgiven once you profess. We need to be loyal.
If we have the love and spirit in our marriage, every marriage should work. Pride, abundance of bread, idleness… that is all wrong. Keep our hearts, conscience, and lives pure.
Never get involved from the beginning. It pays to make our conscience clear. A lady who professed was also a smoker. She missed out on her salvation (because she stopped going). This was after she professed.
Keep our “no” as “no” and our “yes” as “yes”. It’s good to have that spirit for going that second mile.
Matthew 5:44: (That’s Principle #2.)
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
The power and spirit of God will enable us to do these things. It is impossible to be married and be divorced when you’re professing. Note: The Bible speaks of “divorce” and then “re-marrying”, but Jesus also says – “With man, things are impossible, but with God – ALL things are possible.” What’s dead is dead and in the past, and once people DO ask for forgiveness – ALL their sins are forgiven. Don’t go marry and divorce and marry and divorce over and over again (some do this). A marriage is to last forever, and divorce is never an option.
This is that “chance” one gets to repent. And, “repent” means to never repeat the sin again, and never have others (including yourself) bring it back up again.

From the Boring II Convention, Saturday, September 4, 2004 (Morning Session) | Ivan Shackleton's Testimony | Hymn chosen: #245 - "Songs of Zion" (Topic: Joy & Satisfaction) Testimony Topic: Hunger and Thirst for the Water | Steering Away From Obstacles that Hinder Our Soul / Spirit
John 4 – Regarding the Samaritan lady who went to the well for water.
John 4:7:
7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
We need to go and get the water for our spiritual life. The well is the center of our lives. We have the well from heaven… the Spiritual water. We have to be found every day going to the well for the Spirit of our lives. She knew that the Samaritans didn’t talk to a Jew (where she saw Jesus). Jesus asked her for something to drink. Her vision was just that – “This man is a Jew.” She put a barrier between her and Jesus asking why (or “how” that it is Him, being a Jew, is speaking to a Samaritan woman such as her). Don’t say, “I can’t”, rather say – “I’ll try”. “I can’t” usually means “I won’t”. Have a willing Spirit.
When God speaks – we hear and obey. A little child can break down every barrier – and all our animosity can be taken away. Become a little child (which we have). Have that Spirit and willingness to learn. Ask God and He will speak to us. He will speak to us anyway. When one doesn’t know as much – they can be taught. If they know it all or think they do- then, they’re hard to teach. Be like a child and be taught.
John 3:3:
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
We don’t want to allow “traditions” or “customs” to be in the way of the condition of our souls. Some of our traditions, or customs, or possessions come between us and God. What about when the master looks at it? It’s worth nothing. What we need is living water. Be careful of what we wrap up and feel that something is important in our lives if it has no meaning to God. Enthusiasm = God in you. All the education you have to be successful in life can be worth nothing when it comes to Jesus and for eternal life. Don’t wrap up something of no value that you think is valuable. Things that are important in this life will be important in eternity.
She, the lady at the well, never raised the idea of her sin. And, before she could receive the living water, she had to be cleansed. People couldn’t worship in the mountains nor in Jerusalem, but “in spirit and in truth”.
John 4:23-24:
23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
She, the lady at the well, was blind at first. People receive God’s vision and have a clear vision of Christ… of Jesus. She spoke of worship.
Another story is like the Japanese man that kept asking to be baptized in the storm… he couldn’t get to Wednesday meetings due to his health. However, you can keep believing in God, and praying to Him when you are away from meetings.
We worship God in our hearts. Sacrifice, and worship go together… especially when we humble ourselves as the Spirit of a little child. We don’t want to raise “obstacles” that would be put in the way of pleasing God.
[See Romans 14.13… that we can judge {someone’s deeds / their “doings”} righteous judgment that “no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.”]
Ezekiel 24:14:
14 I the LORD have spoken it: it shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent; according to thy ways, and according to thy doings, shall they judge thee, saith the Lord GOD.
Romans 14:13:
13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.
