Juliette, I believe you are on the right track... wanting to nurture the kind of relationship that produces what you desire. Compare that with those facing their deathbeds, still believing it is the child who broke the relationship between them beyond fixing... I would MUCH prefer to be the former, and made that choice a long time ago.

You are one sicko. No adult should hit any child in the face especially a three year old such that they have red hand marks. This is clear child abuse. It was a 2x2 who did the abuse so mark it as you will. Look you 2x2 koolaid drinker, think what you want about how other people raise their kids. I couldn't care less what you think. Your choice of company and leadership says enough about you. You're sitting there in a horse barn listening to child-molesting preachers spew their blaspemous rhetoric. I grew up in your cult and was never spanked but much worse came my way from the sickos you call friends and workers.

I left after I saw the truth even though it took 35 years. Nope don't like cool aid. Nope don't smoke, drink nor worship the devil but I still hate child abusers with a passion. I have seen it all. I know what they do and I know how they do it. Every crack of darkness can be seen if you look.

Quietly sitting there waiting for the 2nd meeting to start at convention and about 5 minutes before it starts I hear some child talking a little too loud and then the rattle of a pill bottle as the parent slips a drug to the child with a bottle of water. I see a young mother in her long pretty dress and well done hair with the bun drugging her child right in front of everybody. To my horror I see a small pill slip past the lips of the child and, minutes later, watch her as she lethargically knods off to sleep, drugged into a temporary coma by her own parent. With a Jewish tongue I say....And This is Love? I am weeping in my heart even today thinking as I write this. Shame Shame on any who would think this to be right. I've seen children doped up on Ritalin/Concerta, Adderall, Dexedrine, etc for years now and often wonder how many parents just don't want the hassle of teaching discipline so they just put these awful chemicals in their children. This stuff is worse than spanking, imo. I've concluded that we live in a society full of lazy parents.

I think spanking is the worst thing you can do to a child.
You may call it drugging, but I call it getting the desired result without resorting to violence.

Just because a child is on medications does not mean that the parents don't want to discipline them!!
There are many reasons why a child might be on medications.

There are many reasons why a child might be on medications. And many of these reasons are right next to crazy. Refusing to discipline your child appropriately, then falling back on an excuse "Oh, he has ADHD, lets drug 'im" is a sad testament to the deplorable state of parenting in the world today. (Not that I expect any of the millions of parents in this "lazy position" to back me up or anything; I know I'm in the minority here.)

Have you ever had the pleasure of working or living with a true ADHD child?
Having a child who is ADHD has nothing to do with not wanting to discipline them... ADHD children have such a hard time focusing and quieting their minds long enough to learn. If they are on the right meds, they at least are givin the chance to be able to quiet their minds and focus so they are able to learn to the fullest.

I know someone who put their young child on Ritalin. I have no doubt that they felt they were doing the right thing being told that this little 8 year old was one of these hyper kids. My observation was that in the course of one year this little boy became worse with all sorts of other problems. i do not think this med. helped at all but made the child worse. It is a shame that so many think these meds are the answer. To many meds being used by all. As to the hitting of little kids. No I do not agree with it. I can see a pat on the bottom of a little one during teaching formative years. If you miss that period it is over and to late for any corporal punishment to make any impact.

I am not saying that we should put ever child on meds... I am saying that there are some children who truly need meds to help them focus and function in life. A hyper child does not automatically mean they have ADHD...
My son was on Ritalin for a very short time as the Dr. thought he was ADHD... well the Ritalin made him go into a very violent rage....of course I stopped giving him the Ritalin..... after years of talking to many, many Docs. he was finally dx with Bi-polar disorder... once he was on the right meds and took them every day he was able to function in his every day life.

Yes, my son, and was diagnosed myself. As it turns out, the drugs just postponed my agony. Withdrawing from them as an adult forced me to undergo the hell my parents didn't want to bother with when I was a child. (I had to get off the drugs because as an adult, they were causing other serious side effects.) And you are wrong. It does have to do with discipline. As for quieting their minds and focusing, you are correct, the drugs do help (albeit marginally) with that, but what they also do is take a creative, active mind, and turn it into a mind-numbed robotic drone. But to what end? The drugs don't solve a problem. They just mask the symptoms.

With re. to child abuse of any kind or mistreatment of anyone of any kind.... I always say "you NEVER know what's going on behind closed doors, no matter how great things look from the outside". I didn't grow up in a 2x2 home but I know we looked a lot more "perfect" than we actually were.

I am weeping in my heart even today thinking as I write this. Shame Shame on any who would think this to be right.I think you might have an active imagination. First, can you think of a drug that, given orally, to a pre-adolescent child, will cause them to sleep in minutes? Do you know the meaning of coma (deep state of unconsciousness from which a person cannot be aroused even by painful stimuli)? Did you consider the possibility that the child might not have been feeling well and the medication was nothing more than acetaminophen or ibuprofen? (Of course, a good question then would be why was the child in the meeting) While I can appreciate your attempt at dramatic prose, this is way over the top.

It is like seeing what goes on behind closed doors.

star, are you just some hack with an agenda, or can you show me where you posted and equally critical reply to the original "slapping version"? I think you might have an active imagination. No, I have an eye for truth, and you have an agenda. Yes. Ritalin. I said "temporary coma". Did you catch that, or was it too many syllables?

My error. I missed the original post.
No, I have an eye for truth, and you have an agenda.
Yes. Ritalin.
Ritalin may have a calming effect on children but sleep is not one of the effects nor is sleep noted as a serious side effect.
It is a stimulant, and like many stimulants, has the opposite effect on prepubescent children but not to the point of putting them to sleep.
I said "temporary coma". Did you catch that, or was it too many syllables?
You did and even though you included the word temporary it was incorrect. Sleep is not a coma.
This isn't a one-time thing. It happens frequently and I doubt the child is really chronically ill.
But we still haven't determined what drug was being given. Do you know that the child was not perhaps a diabetic being managed with oral rather than injected medication?
If I have offended the sensibilities of your agenda, I'm sorry too bad. No, it was the abuse of the English language. I mistakenly thought you had composed the prose and felt it was, even in comparison to the worst romance novel, over the top.

Ritalin may have a calming effect on children but sleep is not one of the effects nor is sleep noted as a serious side effect. You need to do some research. www.drugs.com/Ritalin/Note: Your experience may not be indicative of all experience. Fine. I'll call it unconciousness then. Happy? I knew the family well. She had been diagnosed with ADHD and was taking Ritalin for it. They were quite open about it. She was not diabetic. LOL. Whatever. Look, arguing over this is pointless. The drugging parents can drug their children and leave the spanking parents alone while the the spanking parents can spank their children and leave the drugging parents alone.

Ritalin may have a calming effect on children but sleep is not one of the effects nor is sleep noted as a serious side effect.
You need to do some research. www.drugs.com/Ritalin/ I already had. You, it seems, have not. The side effect is sleeplessness. Ritalin is just not a sleep medication. From your posted site: What are the possible side effects of methylphenidate? • Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. • Stop taking methylphenidate and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects: · fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeats; · feeling light-headed, fainting; · increased blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain, numbness, seizure); · fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash; · aggression, restlessness, hallucinations, unusual behavior, or motor tics (muscle twitches); or · easy bruising, purple spots on your skin. • Continue taking methylphenidate and talk with your doctor if you have any of these less serious side effects: · vision problems; · mild skin rash; · dizziness; · nervous feeling, sleep problems (insomnia); · nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite; or · weight loss. Emphasis added Note: Your experience may not be indicative of all experience.
Not all but the vast majority of people react as I indicated. Fine. I'll call it unconciousness then. Happy?
At least it is not incorrect in concept but I would spell it unconsciousness. I knew the family well. She had been diagnosed with ADHD and was taking Ritalin for it. They were quite open about it.
So you knew they were giving a prescribed medication. But you wrote about it as if the mother was drugging the child. She was not diabetic.
So she has that going for her! The drugging parents can drug their children and leave the spanking parents alone while the the spanking parents can spank their children and leave the drugging parents alone.I would like to think that children do not need to be drugged or hurt. And no, it is not always the case that we should leave the care of children in the hands of the parents.
