BOILING SPRINGS - Mr. George "G.T." Thomas McSwain Jr., 85, 241 E. College Ave., died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Cleveland County, son of the late George Thomas McSwain Sr. and Bertha England McSwain. He served in the Army during World War II as an Honor Guard for General Douglas McArthur in Japan. He began working at age 18 in his father's business, G.T. McSwain's, and later became owner in 1960 and later retired. G.T. was a member of nondenominational Religion. He was charter member of Boiling Springs Fire Department for 39 years, former board member of Crawley Memorial Hospital and former board member of Branch Banking and Trust Company. Other than his first love for his Savior, his work was his life. He truly loved the time he spent with his family and had a great love for service to his community.
