"Dear Portland friends,
Emma passed away at 2:05 this afternoon. Emma went so peacefully. With death, you never know how close or how far away it is so I wasn’t there as I was picking up Reta F from the airport. Roy and Mabel H had come over to visit Emma and be with Ellen and nephew Duane so the 4 of them were there when
she breathed her last. Reta and I arrived about 15 minutes later and then Jim and Sally J showed up just hoping to visit Emma and found her gone already. Later Dorene D and Tessa D came and later still Craig Jacobsen and Curtis J came. Earlier in the day, Laurie M was there, and Glen and Coline C were there along with Ron and Faye E too. She has had a steady stream of visitors the past few days.
The caregivers in the care center were very respectful about Emma and felt that they were truly blessed by having Emma with them along with Emma’s “extended family”. They will really miss having Emma with them. Several said good bye to Emma before she was taken to Lincoln Memorial.
Can I tell you one funny story about Emma that happened about a month ago in the care center? The nurses were very kind to Emma and let her roam around the nurses' office as she felt that she was “helping” them make rounds, etc. They had given her a nutritional chocolate drink which she evidently didn’t like and
poured it down the fax machine. The nurses showed me their new, shiny fax machine as the result. The nurses chuckled about the incident for some time but I doubt that the administration thought it was so funny!!! Evidently she didn’t like it and poured
it down the sink!!!!
Funeral plans will be made tomorrow morning.
With care, Linda B"
