Any relation to ex-worker, Willis Crane, now deceased (approx. 1976) ? Yes, Joe is a nephew of Willis. Joe was a son of Mark (Sr.) and Bessie Crane, and Mark (Sr.) was a brother of Willis Crane. Joe has a brother also named Mark (Jr.) and a sister, Nellie Crane Malray, and another sister, Katherine. Joe and Mark's mother Bessie was a Carlile, who was a sister of Rex Carlile, who is the grandfather of one of our favorite TMB personalities! (Or is it Carlisle with an 's'?). There have been and are scads of workers in the Crane family. A partial list: From the older generation, Mark, Willis, Oliver (Sr.). From the next generation, Joe, Mark (Jr.). From the next generation, LaNell and Glenda, daughters of Nellie Malray. Others, I'm sure, whom I have missed.

Did Oliver Crane serve in the work in Africa. If it's the same one. He came to Iowa after having a stroke. He was unable continue in the work. He drove a car he called peanut beige. Nice guy

It is very sad to hear of Joe's death but know he is in a better place now. I will always remember Joe from the many days he was in our home. We saw him often as the worker's mail came to our home for them to pick up. He made all the young people laugh as he told us stories and all the teenagers were always looking forward to hearing him speak at meetings or come to our home to tell us many stories or to sing. His sermons were always interesting and we never dreaded the fact that it was time for him to speak. I know his family will miss him dearly and it was indeed a pleasure to have known him. I feel like he made a lasting impression on my life at a young age with his knowledge and his understanding. Joe was never one to judge another but rather to help them. Another of the good ones has gone on.

Gene, it's Carlile, you were correct. My cousin Joe was always a friendly, interesting, humorous fellow. I remember, one time he showed up at the family reunion with a pony tail! Yes, baldy with a ponytail. He was wearing a ballcap, and the ponytail was attached to it. It was hilarious!
