Whatever value this movie has is the direct result of Jodie Foster's superb acting. She was perfectly in the role of a victim of violence. She played the insecurity and attempted adjustment perfectly. I have seen her in a lot of roles, but never one where she portrayed a character so powerfully, so believably.
I won't say that I loved this film for its entertainment value. This is not a super hero kick ass flick, but about coming to grips with an act of senseless violence. It ain't always purty, but it's always realistic. Don't pick this one for a Friday night relaxing film. This is one that will take you into the dark recesses of your psyche to think about how you would deal with violence and loss of a loved one.

Thanks for the critique Brick. I havent heard about this movie yet. Unfortunately, it doenst sound like the kind of movie Im in the mood for this summer . Life right now has enough dark places for me to go to without needing to go there on film. How about another board and we call it Brick's Critic Corner. Christ's Blessings cat

I saw this movie earlier in the year. It was pretty good . . . kind of a female version of Death Wish.

Was Death Wish good? Do you recommend it?

Actually, Brick - I think I'll watch it again as well. It's been quite awhile since I last saw it. Sometime back in the 80s, I think! LOL ;D

I just watched two old movies: No Way Out with Kevin Costner and Swordfish with John Travolta and Hugh Jackman and loved both of them. I had seen them ages ago, but it was fantastic to see them all over again. No Way Out features a young and trim Kevin Costner and is full of suspense, twists and turns in the plot, and a hefty dose of irony at the end. I loved it back then, but wondered if it would still do it for me now. It did!

I'm not a huge Costner fan in general, so I never felt moved to watch it again after the fist time. But I do recall enjoying the film (and never forgot about the "twist" at the end), so perhaps it's time to take another look at it. Swordfish was pretty good too . . . it's always nice to take a look at Mr. Jackman. I'm looking forward to his Wolverine movie.

Here is a quote that matches the message of The Brave One:
"The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."
