1. I feel for Jerry - I don't wish family difficulties of any kind on anyone.
2. Jerry is very upset about his teen not believing in the truth and wanting to attend a different church.
3. Apparently Jerry's daughter is quite a thinker and has heard plenty in her life at gospel meetings, conventions, meetings, etc., and is beginning to think about her own salvation and is actually taking it quite seriously.
3. Jerry believes his daughter is headed on a path to lost eternity by attending a church of false religion, listening to a preacher who is actually a wolf dressed in sheeps clothing.
THIS IS THE GOOD POINT:
4. Jerry has effectively communicated how numerous non-professing parents feel when their own teen ends up professing thru a well intentioned professing person who is sharing their little light. I've known numerous kids from worldly familes who have 'professed' and been saved. The friends and workers have unabashedly gloried in the miracle of such a responsible honest kid seeing the light and being saved. Every effort is made to support the kid and ensure they don't lose out, even if it means little white lies to the lost parents. Often little snippets of info are 'unintentionally' spread to let the other friends know that the worldly family has problems so what a blessing it really is. In fact the 'worldly' family is very normal and nice in many cases.
5. "Worldly" people who have kids that profess end up with familes that are really torn apart. How would you feel if you knew your kid believed whole-heartedly you were going to hell if you didn't profess? Knowing your kid's mind had somehow been influenced so profoundly so as to believe if they didn't participate and grow in this certain religion, they feared certain hell. Many of these poor parents have no idea what they are in for when they let their kid go to a convention or church with a friend from school and are really blind-sided.
6. Don't cry underage Jerry - I've never heard a friend or worker say, 'you know, we really shouldn't mess with this kid's psyche and family.' 'Because they are underage, we will have a meeting with them and their parents and provide full disclosure that in the coming meetings, we will be teaching their underage kid the following absolute truths:'
a. They will one day die or the world will end.
b. When that happens you will either go to hell or heaven
c. Only those who truly served God and followed in his true way will make it to heaven
d. There is a tiny possibility that a few isolated people who never had the chance to meet a worker will make it to heaven
e. Since you have now been to a meeting and heard a worker, you have no excuse.
f. These are the only people who honestly serve God
g. This is the only way in the world that is God's true way
h. Now, not only do you have to profess to save yourself, it is your incumbent responsibilty to profess because you are the only fragile link the rest of your family has to the true way, and surely you don't want to see them go to hell.
(Oh, and by the way, this message will be communicated to their impressionable searching minds in a setting filled with somber moving well-sung hymns, open verbal prayer, tearful personal testimonies, and other time-honored rigid regular frequent proceedings.)
6. I submit Jerry's situation is a much better situation. His daughter's 'rebellion' may actually lead to other members of her family getting out and being saved.
Footnote: I'm sure Jerry's kid is suffering to the point of it affecting her grades and other aspects of her life. I was raised professing and didn't leave until I was an adult and it has absolutely caused me significant psychological social problems that have and continue to impact my life and my relationships with others.
