This is serious. If I love the world, according to 1 John 2:15, I DO NOT love God. It seems as if there is no exceptions or "middle ground" here.
So how do I know if I love the world?
What might be some signs that I love the world and therefore do not love God, the Father?

1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.
The "world" here seems to indicate the earthly systems..or ways, as opposed to God's Kingdom and His ways. How do we know if we are loving the "world" as portrayed in these verses? I think it's all about moderation vs. indulgence.
All good gifts come from the Father of lights, so we know we are to enjoy things in this life. But, if they begin to replace our love of Him and our purpose in Him..something is wrong.
In another sense we ARE to love the world as He loved us. Of course that means the people who are in it.
Blessings, Linda

You show your love of the world by signing its songs, following its fashions, idolizing its idols, sharing its values, speaking its language etc.

1. Buns and a dress.
2. Workers
3. No T.V, No sports,No radio,No makeup,Turn your head when an outsider comes into Gospel meeting........oh the list goes on
4. The,thou, king James version of prayers speaking as if you are old English. Singing the same songs before eating at convention or Special meeting. By the way is that not Repetitious!

You show your love of the world by signing its songs, following its fashions, idolizing its idols, sharing its values, speaking its language etc. You love the world by owning farms, flash cars and flash houses. You love the world by gossiping about others, by the time you spend putting your hair up in the morning, the fancy lips you put in your hair, buying expensive clothes, getting new clothes for convention, saying we are right and everyone else is wrong, etc, etc. everything is of the world. Galatians 6 tells us the works of the flesh. I think this is a good example of the world.

Workers preach from the platform and refer to "WORLDY" things. What is considered "WORLDLY" nowadays? I am curious because the young professing kids look just like all other kids, and are doing and participating in things used to be considered "WORLDLY". The professing kids myspace and facebook are no different than anyone elses except theirs say-----I go to meeting or I profess. So, to professing people, what does "WORLDLY" mean in 2007?

You show your love of the world by signing its songs, following its fashions, idolizing its idols, sharing its values, speaking its language etc. I can understand the last three, Bert, but I take exception to the first two. Not all fashion is immodest, and many non-hymns are beautiful songs. M.
