Free from what?
John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. [33] They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? [34] Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. [35] And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. [36] If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

... and joined yourself to what? Jesus. Not a group. Not a religion. Not an organization. Not a manmade way. Jesus.

... and joined yourself to what? I didn't join myself to any "what." I joined Jesus.

I'm free from a group of people that think they are the " 'house' that the Son abideth ever", and further misinterpret exactly what these verses mean!!! This interpretation is obvious by the way you highlighted them to answer (in objection to) us being FREE! The "house" you have highlighted is the house of sin. Of course we will not abide there after having made "the Son" our own! Then, we will "abide ever" in the Son! More good work ready! Edy

Beware the great deciever, who would have us take comfort in being freed from the will of God. Thank you Faithful1 for joining us here! It helps me to be continually thankful that I was able to get away from the beliefs and attitudes you have! It grieves me to remember what I was like when I thought like you. I have prayed for forgiveness for having this attitude toward God's other children -- of believing they weren't His children. I am thankful for forgiveness for having been that way. Thankful to be free, Edy

If your exegesis of scripture is on par with your understanding of Church History, then we are in for a rocky ride down the slopes of supposed "superior" interpretation.
The "house" you have highlighted is the house of sin. Of course we will not abide there after having made "the Son" our own! Then, we will "abide ever" in the Son!
Lets see if this interpretation can be substantiated from the text:
[33.] They replied to Jesus, "We are Abraham's descendants, and we've never been anyone's slaves. So how can you say that we will be set free?" [34.] Jesus answered them, "I can guarantee this truth: Whoever lives a sinful life is a slave to sin. [35.] A slave doesn't live in the home forever, but a son does. [36.] So if the Son sets you free, you will be absolutely free.
Eddy maintains that the house mentioned in this passage is the "house of sin". Yet the passage speaks of a slave who does not live in the home forever, but a son does. In other words, Eddy is saying the "slave to sin" is ejected from the "house of sin", but the Lord Jesus Christ lives in the house of sin forever!
Of course this is utter nonsense. The passage does not speak of a "house of sin", which is an idea read back into the text. When we allow the text to speak for itself, we get the correct interpretation:
[33.] They replied to Jesus, "We are Abraham's descendants, and we've never been anyone's slaves. So how can you say that we will be set free?"
This was a disputation between Jesus and the Jews. Having a purely political understanding of slavery, they imagined a political context to Jesus' words. "We've never been anyone's slaves!" (A staggering remark in light of their present Roman overlords, and a history of occupation by the Babylonians and Greeks). Jesus was speaking a spiritual slavery, a theme the Apostle Paul would later take up again in the Romans where he speaks of two kinds of slavery. Slavery to righteousness, and slavery to sin.
[34.] Jesus answered them, "I can guarantee this truth: Whoever lives a sinful life is a slave to sin.
Jesus clarifies what he means when he speaks of slavery. By sinning, a man enslaves himself to a power that is contrary to God. He makes himself obedient to the things which oppose God. We see this graphically demonstrated in the Garden of Eden where, having once been free in a state of grace, Adam and Eve fell into sin and became its slaves - as did all their descendants.
Here Jesus points to the fact that those who engage in a sinful life have in one sense been masterd by the sin, not the other way around. If we think of a man like Hugh Hefner, for example, who keeps three women on the side and whose life has been a round of sex, dugs, parties and sin could we seriously say that he has been the master over his lifestyle? Or has his sinful way of life dominated and mastered him?
[35.] A slave doesn't live in the home forever, but a son does.
The Jews thought of themselves as children of Abraham, of the House of Abraham. We know - and the Jews fervently believed - that Abraham was a righteous man, who lived a life of faith in God and whose good and honest works were upheld as models to follow. These Jews however, showed themselves to be sinners and unrighteous because a few verses later, Jesus explains they harboured desires to kill (murder) him, thereby proving themselves to be sons of the devil.
If they desired murder - as Cain desired to murder Abel - then they were desiring that which the Law opposed. They were binding themselves to sin, and had made themselves slaves to sin - obedient to the very thing God hates. In a purely literal sense, no slave ever lives in a certain house forever. Eventually he is sold, or freed with age, or ejected. And so these men, who would soon be enslaved to the sin of murder, would not dwell in the House of Abraham, the House of God forever.
But the son does. It is HIS house. He dwells in the house forever. And there was no truer son than the Son of God.
[36.] So if the Son sets you free, you will be absolutely free.
So if the one who dwells in the house forever - the Son of God )note the capitalisation) - sets a man free from his servitude to sin, then he will truly be set free. And like the son, he will be able to dwell in the house forever.
May all creatures give praise to the Lord Jesus, as a witness and testament to his unending glory. The Son who frees the slave.
Amen, amen, amen! Forever and ever amen!
