Trust! The way these messages read, it sounds like the Mafia! That is how serious "trust issues" are to victims of abuse of any kind. Very hard to deal with.
The HORRIFIC damage done by sexual abuse eats away at a persons ability to trust. It shatters souls, strips dignity, destroys a person's ability to set healthy boundaries, covers them in shame and guilt.
From my experience ( abuse survivor ) , I had to look "outside" of my circle in the beginning of my journey to healing and recovery. I had to find others with similar experiences, and I had to start listening to myself AGAIN. We are all born with the ability to "know" far more than a person might think. our instincts are razor sharp when we are little. ( we knew who gave us the creeps! ) It seems that only when we started thinking with our heads, did we start to lose the real ability to "know". "Oh, that's Uncle _______, he would never hurt anyone!" Etc.......... And when we gained our voices but were told "no", or "you must be wrong" , we started to doubt what our instincts told us.
We must journey back to the real way of "listening" and "knowing". Thus the road to trusting begins by the grace of God and within ourselves. Heart? Holy Spirit? Intuition? call it what you want, but abuse victims CAN learn to trust again. BUT PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH YOURSELF!!!!! It takes major time and major hard work.
Come into the light. When dark issues are brought to light...............they begin to lose their power over us. It takes courage. Don't stay a victim! Become a survivor.
