Dear Family and Friends:
Felt we should send out a little note of
gratitude to all of you for the care and support
we've felt since the tornado hit on Sunday evening.
We've had many phone calls, emails and offers to
help and we appreciate it all. Many of you have
probably heard by now most of the particulars,
but we will try to give you a little summary of
what happened and what damage we have. First of
all and foremost...no one was hurt. Around 6:50 (I
think it was) I was sitting in the living room
and heard the siren go off in Malcom. I decided
I'd better turn on the radio and see what was
going on and found out our county was under a tornado
warning. Then they mentioned a tornado spotted
about a mile west of Malcom! I called to Rick
and we both paced around the house looking out the
windows and thinking it was going to go north of
us! All of a sudden the wind picked up and you
could just feel our old house "shudder" and then
heard things hitting the house and then felt a
sucking feeling wh
ich prompted us to get to the basement! We
weren't in the basement more than a few minutes
before it was all over! It was hard to see how much
damage we had with it getting dark but we knew
all the buildings were still standing including
our house and that was a good sign!
To sum up the damage...mostly broken windows,
shingles blown off, walk in doors broken,
overhead doors blew in and broke, guttering and fascia
on the house and buildings torn, our central air
unit thrown off the cement pad, trees down, steel
roof and siding off a small storage shed we use,
the newest bin heavily damaged, a damaged
auger, and some corn flattened out back. Could've
been much worse as our neighbor just to the north
of us on the gravel lost everything except her
house and a small hog shed!
Soon after neighbors and friends started
checking up on us and we appreciated their concern!
Monday morning several of our local friends
showed up and started helping with the clean up and
by evening the farm was starting to look pretty
normal again! Work continues today and it looks as
tho we will be replacing part of the mtg. shed
roof. Bruce, Dirk and Alan are here and so along
with our dear friends we work together to put
things back together.
Thanks again for your care and concern.
