If a child is in meeting and not professing, can he or she give out hymns in your meeting?

It's never happened where I'm from, but ....can you imagine any elder saying..um..sorry..you can't do that...I'm sure they would just sing the hymn and let it go...at least here they would, and can't picture it much different from that anywhere else. M.

Why not? We do it our meeting - after a few meetings of the children not choosing a hymn, our elder will specifically ask if any of the children have a hymn they would like to sing. Guess what is the most popular choice?

I would imagine that this varies by region and even by meeting. I've never seen it done. If my young daughter wanted to sing a certain hymn in meeting, she would tell me and I would choose it. Or sometimes her grandma would choose one that she knew was one of my daughter's favorites.

Suffer the little children and forbid them not.
But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
I knew of a child (not professing) who was told not to offer up the hymns any more by the elder. It was done harshly. The little child was just coming to the point of feeling accepted so that was the childs part. Enjoyed giving out the hymns. Perhaps a little to often. Never the less the harsh treatment made him withdraw and no longer felt accepted. Woe unto them. I would sing hymns requested by children always ever and ever.
So what did the church teach this young child? What did Jesus say about it? Seems to me the elder was at fault for breaking the spirit of the little one. Woe unto him.

I guess I was fortunate in that my grandpa was an elder and he let me choose a hymn in Wednesday night meeting several times. I never asked about Sunday, but was not discouraged from it. I think that if the child was choosing hymns a little too often then it could be explained that others would like to choose not make it harsh. I think woe unto the elder that handled this situation badly, because it does no good to break someones enthusiasm for the spirit of the Lord. I hope this child finds somewhere to worship where they are appreciated.
Blessings, Misty
