I work the front desk of a hotel. Love my job! That's great. I knew you did something that involved people. Your personality (I think) would rebel against being shut away in an office. Is it a big hotel?

So is the topic occupations?
I work in the finance industry - banking, for almost 20 years. I always tell folks that my favorite part of the job is dealing with, and helping, folks. My least favorite part of the job is dealing with people - you know the ones - they come in yelling, literally, about a fee and then you find out they haven't balanced their check book since they opened the account - duh!! Now my job involves training and special projects - mergers and acquisitions - least favorite part of this job? Doing training at a branch after they've had a robbery - way too much stress for the little we pay a teller!!!
Who else wants to weigh in about their job?

2 more thoughts: 1) This is an excellent way to get to know our neighbors on the board - to connect with one another on a more personal level, rather than some of the flaming that occurs. 2) - Have to be careful that I don't leave an 'e' off of my name - ;D

Who has a good topic? C'mon! Amuse me! ;D There is NO internet where I work or your disciplined if you connect to online on there PC's. Only management can get on and only for information regarding our jobs.

same for me at my last job, IllinoisGal. With this job, I'm very lucky. AS long as if...a guest is at the counter or on the phone and you jump, and you get the rest of your work done...they don't care. YAY, me!

WORK is a four letter word....... ;D
BUT, I really LOVE my job! I'm on the computer all day, don't have time for the internet though, I'm a customer service rep for a large insurance company and we deal with AARP members.....maybe I've talked to some of you??

I think it's kind of cool to read what everyone does! I own a small stock embroidery design company. I just draw designs and turn them into embroidery designs that other people can use. If it weren't for the internet, I wouldn't have a business! I love my job too! It's like I get to play all day and get paid for it. And 99% of my customers are really lovely sweet craftsy type women.
I know we hear much about the evils of the internet, but does anyone else here believe the internet could have great potential to bring people together, and let us all get to know each other better?

Well, I am a pirate. Not an overly successful one, but a pirate nonetheless. There is nothing like a stiff wind at your back, snapping and rattling the sails, making the lines in the rigging sing and vibrate while you watch your prey grow larger and larger as you approach from astern. Then along with your band of hearties, your swing across the gap onto the deck, never knowing if your next breath will be your last.

But what about the raping and the pillaging, Brick?! Doesn't it ever get to you? I mean, do you not feel guilty at all?

Y'know, if it was all fun, it wouldn't be work. I can't honestly say that I do any more raping these days, though. It isn't rape if they are willing, is it?

lol Ok, I guess pirating may be work and not all fun. I mean, the idea of pirating has appealed to me too (other than the raping and pillaging), but mostly just because it's illegal. All my best business ideas are 'somewhat' illegal and usually get shot down by dear hubby.

I'm a teacher.
I love older kids - adolescents\teenagers - and I love my job of teaching. I particularly enjoy knowledge, and breaking it down step-by-step to build up to a greater concept.
It's not always fantastic. Sometimes there's behaviour problems, or I can't stand my colleagues for some period of time (if politicians had to put up with some of my colleagues they'd reintroduce the death penalty tomorrow). But overall, its good.

That proves it GIT...there's something terribly wrong with you. LOL! Just kidding you. My teenagers drove me crazy and I think it must take a very different or special type of person to teach teens. I'm sure my teenage boys drove their teachers nuts. They weren't very good at paying attention in school...hmmm...or anywhere else.

I work in retail. I am around people all day and I love this. When I am confronted with some disgruntled person, I feel challenged to turn their attitude around.
It works both ways too. When I am feeling grouchy and stressed my customers can turn my attitude around. And believe me, there have been days.........
One nice thing is by living in a small community I get to know a lot of people because of my work. I feel a personal care for many of them and some share every day details of problems and happy events in their lives.
Great topic for a thread. RA

I do the same thing recentarriver!! One thing I've found is if I can turn an unhappy customer's attitude around, they become one of the most loyal customers I have. I also love to try to make grumpy people smile. Sometimes the smile just looks so unnatural on their face that I have to smile too!

same here...I talk to my guests about stuff all the time. go figure! heh. The ones that are alone often come down to the desk when they are wandering around the lobby just to hang out and chat for abit. Everyone needs company and someone to talk to! Imagine those rooms can get awfully lonely if they are away from their families or just alone in general...and i enjoy someone to chat with too..>Mich
