Anyone ever read any books by Marianne Williamson, or been to any of her lectures?

Yes, what do you think of her? I have read a couple of her books, and have met her a couple of times. I personally like her, and think she is a good person. She seems to acutely feel her social responsibilities, and is moving increasingly into peace activism. In general, she would not play to the crowd on this board because of the "new age" fears and labelling. She is actually Jewish by upbringing and would make many conservative Christians uncomfortable. I believe she is highly respected by more liberal Christians. Nonetheless, I think she has written some timeless words. The words from the "Our deepest fear" speech often attributed to Nelson Mandela were actually hers. She also has a talent for cutting to the heart of the matter in the practicalities of living a happy and successful life. For example, "We are not held back by the love we didn't receive in the past, but by the love we're not extending in the present."

Its been 10 year since I TRIED to read her book on Miracles. I could not make heads or tales of what she wrote...its beyond me. It just doesn't make sense that I could follow.

she did not write the book on miracles. So The Age of Miracles: Embracing the New Midlife by Marianne Williamson (Author) was NOT written by Marianne Williamson?

That book was, but it is not out yet. It is due out in October of this year, so I know Cherie or anyone hasn't read that book.

Loved her book - "Everyday Grace"- Having hope, Finding Forgiveness and Making Miracles. Being a B& R and finally cutting the cord after being in and out of the "truth"several times in my life ( hard to get rid of that "what if this is the only way" thinking) I am very grateful for finding this book as it was a real help to me along with Cherie Kropp's website in finally deciding - William Irvine's way is NOT the "only way"

I think you are talking about "A Course in Miracles" which was not written by Marianne Williamson, but she did write a book about her impressions of it. I love her prayers she writes really nice ones. I don't buy into everything in the Course, but it does make some valid points. I think everyone has to read what they want and try the spirits of what they read or hear for themselves.

I think everyone has to read what they want and try the spirits of what they read or hear for themselves. Blessings, Misty I completely agree with you Misty. Just because one reads a certain "new age" book, doesn't mean one is inclined to be one. The reason one might want to read it is exactly that, to "try the spirits", or simply to know what others think. CM

Im with you there. I read a whole array of books so that my thinking is challenged. Reading a book doesnt mean you take on or believe what they are asserting. I even read "God is not great" written by an atheist just so I could understand their point of view. It didn't change what I believed. You have to read with a critical mind. Look at the source. Look for scholarly reviews. Itll open your mind!

Wings I agree Just like I take or leave things that I read here or in the chat room. I feel it stretches my mind and spirit to consider others journeys and their points of view
