As I was passing the elephants, I suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.
I saw a trainer near by and asked why these beautiful, magnificent animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away.
"Well," he said, "when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it's enough to hold them.
As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away.
They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free."
I was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn't, they were stuck right where they were.
Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?
How many of us are being held back by old, outdated beliefs that no longer serve us?
How many of us have avoided trying something new because of a limiting belief?
Worse, how many of us are being held back by someone else's limiting beliefs?
Thought for the day??

Its nice to find a new trail to explore! (With Jesus of course)

I am touched by this posting.
Until a year ago I felt like the elephant must feel. Tied up.
And then I started asking questions such as these:
"How many of us are being held back by old, outdated beliefs that no longer serve us?
How many of us have avoided trying something new because of a limiting belief?
Worse, how many of us are being held back by someone else's limiting beliefs? "
And then my eyes were opened. I question everything now. Once in a while I go back into my shell, and allow the circumstances to take over, but then something clicks and I feel motivated to do something about certain situations.
It is so liberating.

I vehemently resent the insidious insinuation made by the creator of this thread that professing women are fat and need to be led around with elephant rope.

Nitro, Your very welcome. I also am glad that my friend shared this with me. sharing I vehemently resent the insidious insinuation made by the creator of this thread that professing women are fat and need to be led around with elephant rope. hahaha, you're funny Just for the record, this has nothing to do with the 2x2s. It is about life in general.

P.S. But could certainly apply to the 2x2 religion of course.

Sharing, please understand, the need and form of religion and worship of ANY Christian religious group is to SERVE GOD and not for the religion to serve us. To require a religion to serve the members, we are asking God to update HIS thinking to a new date and time and become less than man. We are asking Him to take any burden off of us that might not be to our liking and therefore we call them outdated.
Some of the 2by2 beliefs may be outdated by today's standards but do these standards "hold back" anyone in serving God?
Must something new be tried if the congregation don't like the old? Jesus Christ is the same "yesterday, today and forever" and just as we do not travel on foot or by donkey any longer the 2by2 way has grown and changed with the times where deemed appropriate. We are all members of the technological age as proved by this and other places of 2by2 communication and input on the Internet.
The 2by2's have some unwritten rules which are not considered as edict yet enforced as edict and as the local Worker see fit. Perhaps this is an area of change needed but these changes would certainly not give the Way over to "serve the members."
I believe that no one is being "held back" by "someone else's limiting beliefs." There is some controversy concerning being "saved by blood," by the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ to pay for our sins. We are not saved by works, but by Grace through Faith. We are beginning to hear this preached some in our Special Meetings and Conventions. Change may come but it may be too slow for some to bear. Those who believe that some change is needed should work quietly with Faith in Jesus Christ and without animosity or hatred toward those who seem so angry with the 2by2 way or the Workers who seem to be so slow to change.
Sometimes, when you are so perfectly sure that you know the Truth, that you have the answer and then were either ignored or reprimanded for your own Faith it comes as a shock to your Soul. I know. There were some who even Jesus could not persuade.
21: Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. 22: But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
Jesus could not persuade this young man. Jesus asked of this man a small sacrifice. Not much of a sacrifice in the eyes of Jesus Christ or possibly the other disciples, (We don't know if they had sold all or not, in fact some were married.) but this verse proves to me that our Lord and God Jesus Christ does require some sacrifice to be made on earth for Him. We must be willing. The sacrifices of the 2by2 way are unique yet small compared to what Jesus asked this man.
Other Churches ask for sacrifices also. Tithes, weekly love offerings, helping with summer programs, etc are no different from other sacrifices, just much easier to offer than something that may be life changing.
Peace in Him,
SBB
