Are new workers given a list for what to pack when they go into the work? What clothes are they told to buy/bring? Do older workers go shopping with them?
Any workers out there able to tell me what happen when they offered for the work?

Yes, there is a list-----a supply list is available at your local Wal-Mart alongside current public school supply list. Look for title "2x2 Worker Supply List". You yourself can pick up one of these list and purchase items listed to donate to the workers. We would be very grateful for you help, thanks for your concern.

You are SSSOOOOO helpful... It was a genuine question. I was told you are told what is suitable to wear by older workers and I wanted to know if it was true. If I went into the work I wouldn't want them chosing my clothes for me.

I don't know much but when a girlfriend of mine went into the work, she was taken clothes shopping by the older female workers.
Fortunately for her, one of the workers thought she did not have to look older or anything like that, so she told her she could still wear young looking clothing.

A sister worker in Ireland got into big trouble because she wore long skirts down to her shoes... she is really tall and she always looked so elegant. She has wore her hair "foofy" on top and was told to flatten it out. She also wore different color shoes and was told to only wear black or brown. She told the overseer that when God made colors, he made all the colors and she was going to wear them. They sent her overseas for many years after.

When I went in the work (90's) nobody told me what to bring. I was given a date to show up at preps and that was it. I guess the overseer assumed I knew what to pack... I'm male, if that makes any difference.

2001 was my first year in the work (UK) I was advised to pack condoms just in case anything ever got out of hand.
Found it wierd...but now see why!!

These are the posts \ threads I find the saddest and most depressing. The fact that there exists individuals whose minds are so preoccupied with minutia that they would bother with a discussion about a topic both boring and mundane when there are countless rich discussions about the Gospel just waiting to occur, is sad.
One is hard-pressed to find such scrutiny elsewhere. Dumas once satirised Roman Catholic theology by having a young candidate for the priesthood write his thesis on the scriptural basis for the Pope to bless with three raised fingers, as opposed to two fingers.
This board, however, is beyond satire. It is real; it is produced by real individuals without any motive toward humour or irony; it is taken seriously by some. The same level of absorbtion with minutia that has provided fodder for literature for centuries has taken flesh right here. Dumas, eat your heart out!
Are new workers given a list for what to pack when they go into the work? What clothes are they told to buy/bring? Do older workers go shopping with them?
A couple of responses.
Who cares? I am a dilligent, actively professing Friend and even I cannot feel the slightest shred of interest in this topic.
Secondly. One hopes that new Workers would have sufficient common-sense to know what to pack in a suitcase, for heaven's sake! (They are not intellectually retarded, you know).
Any workers out there able to tell me what happen when they offered for the work?
Is there a pressing need to know this?

AMEN GIT!
Who cares.... I mean WHOOOOOO CARES!
There is no pressing need to know... this thread was created for what reason?
WHY?
This crap drives me nuts!
Of all the topics we could be talking about, is worker suitcases really worth our time?
I wish the original would read your post and take it to heart...

If ya don't like the post, then don't post! Quit the whinin' oh oh oh... maybe we SHOULD fill up this board with useless and stupid topics that are totally irrelevant to anything and anyone... I mean how many times do we have to read the mindless drivel about workers having cell phones, workers packing their suitcases, which color of cars professing people drive, if doctors notice professing people watching tv, or other totally worthless topics... Forgive me if I challenge these lame and meaningless posts... please... forgive me...

Its not healthy to be so tightly wound Bryan. Life doesnt have to be all serious all the time. Do you ever take the time to smile or even laugh?

This is a very big deal to the workers. After all their whole doctrine revolves around appearances--what is in the suitcase is very important. This thread brings back some not so pleasant memories. My first big downer in the work, was when I discovered that what I had packed was NOT OK. I was living in Seattle, and don't even entirely remember who helped me pack it. One was a friend who was waiting for the work. I think the sister workers probably helped, too. Anyway, I started in the work in North Dakota, and my older companion informed me that my dresses just wouldn't do >:(because the sleeves were too short! The sleeves weren't that short, they were just above the elbow. Guess they had to be at least 3/4 length for preaching in. My two companions (we were a threesome) took me shopping, and I found a very nice long sleeved, high necked dress of decent length out of a very nice rayon/cotton type fabric. (It was the middle of winter and would also have been somewhat warm) However, that just wouldn't do, because it was just too...too... It had a narrow ruffle around a yoke . That was the only thing that I remember about it that both made it appealing to me, and not acceptable to them. It was a very nice, modest dress, that I felt suited me. So I was forced to buy an old lady dress that was just not my style. It was out of a woven polyester, that was cold (and hot), just didn't breathe, so I perspired a lot in it. (I was later introduced to dress sheilds. Never saw them before or since being in the work.) I hated the dress. When I had younger companions, I did get some more youthful looking clothes, and ditched that hateful dress. When a friend of mine went in the work, she was informed that she had to have a housecoat/bathrobe, that just wasn't her style either. But she can post that if she wishes This may seem unimportant, but the truth is, stuff like this is made a very big deal out of by some, not all, of the workers. And although it was years ago, I do appreciate the opportunity to vent on this board. The truth is, it is quite ridiculous. Glad that I can now be me!

hair brush, underwear, and a butterfinger... The Mormons wear a special underwear that is symbolic of their covenant made with God. They only take it off to bathe. Is yours like that then? ;D The hairbrush..... well could be a symbol for how you want to "appear" as a Christian? The Butterfinger..... hmmnnnn...... I think you need more of these... they'd sweeten ya up! ;D

Well you'll have to register so you can PM me. Just post it so it's out in the open. If we're going to post things as fact on this board, we shouldn't have any problem posting the names as well. So long as it's true.
