Why are workers with mental issues treated so poorly?
Why are the friends with mental issues treated so poorly?
Some of the worst behavior I've witnessed in Truth is how the f&w treat other members when they have 'issues'. The way workers with mental issues that leave the work are treated is absolutely inhuman.

Answer1: They don't practice what they don't preach. When was the last time you heard a worker suggest that you should be kind to others? William Irvine and many of the early workers were unkind. Answer2: They are not trained in any way for anything except mimicking a companion.

I think there has been a stigma about mental health not just in the truth but everywhere until the last 5 years or so. More people now are getting "help" and are willing to admit they suffer from depression etc. I know a couple of sister workers who have had counseling while in the work. A worker at Seneca a few years ago spoke about how good it is to have others to talk to when we have problems and sometimes that means talking to a professional.
If your leg is broken, you go to the hospital to have it fixed. It should be the same when your mind needs help! Definitely if the workers got professional help for their mental ailments, it would enable them to stay in the work longer and be more productive. I think their position in the work is a breeding ground for depression and anxiety.

The contradictory teachings of the cult force subjective behavioural patterns that mask and disempower the valid teachings of Chrsit. In other words: Act nice, ignore God, talk a certain way about God and others These leads to: horrible stress, confusion, depression, anxiety, doubt, lying, slander, eating-disorders and feelings of no self-worth. The solution: leave the cult and believe in God. Do what God said to do. The healing is incredible. Brad

Most believed God can work things out. I know back in the 70's 80's you were a weak saint if you sought help via doctor or medicine. I wonder if they let it be known it's alright to get help by a professional now?

Nitro, i think the two sister workers that i know who got counseling are in the minority. I think its still preferred if you 'pray' about it.

As a child I witnessed the absolute horrible behavior of professing people towards a woman who was mentally challenged in our meeting and to another woman who was physically disabled and very poor. I was so embarrased as a child for their behavior. My heart went out to the lady and I learned at a very young age to be kind and considerate to individuals who have mental or physical disabilities. As a young adult, when I witnessed the bad behavior of people towards the women, I would voice my complaints. No one cared - they just continued to behave badly.

Untill a few years ago, most professionals didn't know what they were doing either... most of them just looked for something to blame the problems on and left the person with even more problems. Among those involved with the f&w, the most common thing blamed for all the problems was the f&w faith.
Now that the professionals realize that a faith in God and even the principal of living a disciplined life is better than the feel good to have self confidence drivel they use to put out.

Those who live according to God's Laws are just better OFF. Just ask the Sister Of Temperence.

I'm sorry if that was your experience....but I strongly disagree with this statement. Check credentials and make sure they are licensed and in good standing with their medical association etc.

The Friends for the most part and some workers are like a pack of chicks in a pen. If they see a chick which has a sore or seems weak, they all peck at it until the chick dies. Of course the is nature in the chicken world. However, Christans should not be subject to this behavior. Never the less they (F&W) do peck at the weak ones and in most cases destroy them.
I remember a young lad in meeting who was just coming into the stage of wanting to be part of meetings. He wanted to sing all the hymns very loud. Then the elder, after one meeting pulled this little child aside and told him he was not to sing the hymns for a bit. Did not tell him in a fatherly way to please try and sing a little softer---Just not to sing for a bit.
Well then you know what happened to the little child. He turned inside to himself with a fair to sing complex. He did not have the joy of wanting to be part any longer. I believe this is a clear example of one driving a little child away from God. Sad but true.
