Thank you Sharon. Your posts are interesting! Are you attending a particular church now? It must have been difficult for you to leave.

hi encourage-
yes I attend an evangelical free church locally called the gospel chapel. I also listen to Charles Price from the Peoples Church in Toronto and some others also less frequently - like Charles Stanley etc. 100 Huntly Street is a nice program and they have different guests. I like Beth Moores teaching and also Elisabeth George...
Charles Stanley is in the US - depends on what TV stations one has. I used to get Adrian Rodgers ------
Leaving was difficult initially but a huge relief once the barrier was broken........ sharon h

Sharon
I see that you worked in Hong Kong. I had some relatives living there in the nineties and remember hearing some controversy about one of the lead worker guys out there - some guy Cliff whose surname I have long since forgotten. I recall it was a big thing at the time with my relatives who are very sincere 2x2 folk (I wounld'nt wish to name them publicly). Being one of the 'younger generation' this kind of stuff was kept hidden from me - probably lest I became weak in the faith! Any idea on what was going on at the time? Is he still running the show out there?

I like Charles Stanley a lot too. Also Adrian Rogers who is now with the Lord. I receive his daily devotionals via e-mail. I am familiar with the Evangelical Free Church here in the states. One of my dearest friends is close to 70 years old and still in the Friends and Workers. She doesn't miss a chance to tell me she has to leave for meeting or how many conventions she is or has attended this year. I feel so badly for her.

I suspect Sharon Hargreaves is a fake. I think there's no real ex worker named this who posts here. Just another troll...

She one of the few posters that has the courage to use their real names -- I think I can vouch for her existence. We are both ex-Canadian workers from approx the same time frame. I was in the work from 1965 - 1981 so I think she is slightly older than me.

Clancy...I know that Sharon Hargreaves is a real live person because I have emailed with her, received things from her in the mailbox in front of my house and talked to her on the phone several times. She is a very caring and personable person. She has been a great help to me in several areas. I do not question her genuineness at all. If YOU are not a troll, just email her or register and PM her. You will find it a positive experience! (Not everyone on the TMB lives under a bridge!) RA

Well - it was of course interesting to read whether people think I'm real or not - ;D
yes Edgar I am likely a little bit older than you - I am a 1940 model and went in the work in 1961 1969 to the Philippines = Yes I was briefly in Hong Kong with Helen Sharp who was at the time having outdoor meetings in the "Park" for the large population of Filipina (maids mostly) and then the usual meeting at the YMCA building -
I left the work in 1990 -
So Irish Boy - feel free if you wish - to e-mail me privatley for any other "Hong Kong" comments -
cabinbythelake@uniserve.com
I remember the Irish people who were there and I was vaguely aware that there was 'controversy' but I wasn't given any 'inside information' on the 'problems'
Cliff Toane (also a B.C. worker originally) was there at the time. He is now married and lives in B.C.
Cheerio - sharon hargreaves (for real) ;D

So refreshing to read a thread that is interesting with only 1 drive-by shooter. Another Alastair Begg listener.... my husband and I really enjoy listening to him too. We registered to attend his Truth for Life Weekend in Cleveland this October. If you can't find him on a radio station in your area, you can listen online at www.truthforlife.org/Sherlene

Hi Linda - I meant to mention this morning that Karen and I were never actually companions - when she arrived in P.I. it was a great day to welcome the second Canadian there at that time.
She studied Tagalog - the national language and I was in the Ilocano area - we were 'neighbours' more than once though.
I have a lot of respect for your sister Karen.
I see your auntie Doris is on the 'resting' part of the Alberta list - how is she? Is she with friends - family or in a rest home?
love sharon

Hi Sharon...sorry about that, and thanks for the correction.
I think Auntie Doris is with friends in Alberta, but I'm not certain. I haven't seen her in awhile. She does have a fierce handshake, eh? ;D

Blessings, Linda Now that the name comes up, I think that I did hear that before -- However, although the name is very familiar I never did know her. When I was in the work, inter-province exchange was rather minimal. It was first when I went to Sweden and then returned to Canada as a 'visiting worker' that I did much visiting in the other provinces and nearby states. I find it quite interesting how many workers, and high ranking friends have relatives and close connections active in exit and recovery assistance for 2x2ers. This is a fact that is actively ignored within the group. Edgar
