TRUE PREACHER: If he teaches the words of God as it is written in the Bible, no more no less, then he is a True Preacher. "My teaching is not my own. It comes from Him who sent me." and "he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.
FALSE PREACHER: If what he preaches includes his own opinion and or twist the meaning of the verse to suit his own beliefs and what the audience wants to hear then he is a False Preacher. " He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself "
Do workers ever give their own opinion?

Ok... ;D
John 7:16 (King James Version) Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. 17If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. 18He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
also...
1 Corinthians 4:6 (King James Version) And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.
Deuteronomy 12:32 (King James Version) What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.
Galatians 1 (King James Version) 6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

False preachers are determined by their "fruits," not by their form, nor by the words they preach.
Truly many false preachers preach words not according to scriptures, however, many false preachers often preach what is eemingly true.
Jesus said to beware of woilves in sheep's clothing, you will know them by their works.

Then I guess you do not believe Jesus when He warned us about idle words: “Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment” (Mt 12:36).

All very confusion isn't it. In fact so confusing it is that the chances of anyone identifying a true preacher correctly must be pretty slim. And as soon as we identify a true preacher you can rest your merry soul that some fellow believer on this board will pop up from behind a bush with a completely different view and condemn him as belzeebub. One man's true preacher is another man's liar. One man's true way is another man's false way. One man's God is another man's Satan.
I'm always amazed that the so-called Christian world can find fault with almost any man except those who wrote the bible. For some reason it remains beyond reproach. I've no idea why. Why should the bible be the the one holy book that is true? Why shouldn't we be suspicious of those who compiled the good book? The contradictions are over looked, the downright nonsense is overlooked and even the appalling abominations carried out by and in the name of God are put to one side in our religious obsession (for that is what it is) to support our own particular predjudiced view of life.
The bible is full of sound advice and wisdom on how to live one's life but the religious world's in it's quest to appear more godly than the next man can't move beyond its obsession with interpretation and misinterpretation of petty verses which are meaningless on the grand scale of things. One comes preaching that Jesus is God and another calls him mad. One gets hung up on whether you should worship in the home, another on whether Mary was a virgin. One will preach the literal truth of Adam and Eve and all that, another will dismiss it as folly. One will preach that you are saved by works another by his blood.
The Christian world is full of confusion and contradiction to the point that I can't help feeling that God is having a laugh. Those who wrote the bible erred as only humans can, they twisted the scriptures and they misquoted their fellow man. They made things up and they left things out and they took a little poetoc licence here and there. But they provided some wonderful works in the Proverbs, the Book of Ecclesiastics and the Psalms. But the Christian world is too busy bickering over their own petty selfrighteousness and sitting in judgement of others that the true worth of the bible is forgotten.
Little wonder that the writer found it within himself to write the words - the tongue of the wise useth knowledge alright, but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

I understand and agree with you to a point... but from your viewpoint everything seems hopeless.

FALSE PREACHER: If what he preaches includes his own opinion and or twist the meaning of the verse to suit his own beliefs and what the audience wants to hear then he is a False Preacher. " He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself " Do workers ever give their own opinion? Of course. Everyone gives their own opinion. Few people present multiple sides of an issue or interpretation. How many people do you need to agree with before it becomes no longer your own opinion?

should they? A preacher who uses the Bible, but "speaks on his own" and "presents his own ideas" is perverting or distorting the truth.... because he is no longer preaching the Gospel of Christ but a different gospel. Such a preacher wants" to gain honor for himself" and is " looking for praise for himself". one... but it is not people that the preacher needs to agree with.

Ithascome, have you ever considered that when true words are uttered but not acted out (idle) then they can be considered false e'en tho' the words themselves are sound ?
False preachers can and do sometimes speak true words, but they are not backed up by their actions (fruits).

ANDREW I did not say I disagreed with you. But... ;D
When Jesus was arrested in Gethsemane, we are told that his disciples fled... did this make them false preachers.... True preachers do speak true words, but they are not always backed up by their actions (fruits).

Sorry if I misunderstood you Ithascome.
My take on the Disciples fleeing is that they were fulfilling prophecy (although I'm sure that didn't occur to them at the time).
What I understand by knowing them by their fruits, is the produce of love or the Christ within, as covered by the two greatest commandments i.e. proving our love for God by showing his love to others via the fruit of the spirit. All preachers no matter how true they may be will have human failings and if judged by their failings then all preachers would be false. Some preachers show very little love or genuine concern for those outside their fellowship (even to those within) and I think that is a tell-tale hallmark irrespective of how true their words may be.

I agree
I have met both types ... those that have the fruit of the spirit and those that don't.... both inside and outside the 2x2 group.
