When I bring my mother to convention, I wonder about the children I used to see each year at convention. Where are they now? Are they happy or do they think they are headed to a lost eternity? Once there were many families with children at convention. Now the convention looks like a nursing home with walkers, canes, etc.

Hmm, wonder which convention you went to. On the West Coast there are many families and young people.

Seems that isnt the case...in most cases. For all the people who are leaving, there seems to be a need for more conventions places. Makes me wonder...that the ministry is still bringing folks into the "way".
No?

Yes, almost all growth (or perpetuation) is "in house" today.

True...never-the-less...there is an increase .

Regardless of the reason for the increase (even if it were in-breeding), Q would approve of it.

It would be rare to find a convention that has more attendees today than 10 years ago. Even booming Alberta Canada, they are barely holding their own in spite of a huge influx of young friends from elsewhere. Plus, there used to be a prohibition on attending two or more conventions during the 1980's up to the early '90's. Attending more than one is becoming popular again amongst older folks as they combine convention with vacations.
Younger people tend to attend only on the weekends.

Your comments are neither desired or warranted. This is a seriously skewed twist of words. Who said anything about wanting to in-breed? Not I. Maybe you are being defensive for a reason....hmmm...

Syd, some people don't even warrant responses, ya know? (by the way, I'm only just learning that)

I does seem like more people only make it to the weekend. When I was young there was only a few of the young folks and families that would only come on the weekends. Now it seems like people are too busy or have other reasons for only making it to the weekend meetings.

I think there is a slow drop off in numbers but the old truth religion will be around for a long time thanks to reproduction. Many children I knew growing up have disappeared. I wonder where they are...

Now it seems like people are too busy or have other reasons for only making it to the weekend meetings. It's becoming rare for unmarried young people 18-30 to attend a full convention, but multiple weekends is not uncommon. For many young people, the church's value to them is a ready made social system. In one large city that I am quite familiar with which has tons of young people, it is difficult for a young person to find other young friends who aren't interested in going out drinking, partying and carrying on with the opposite sex. A full convention holds no attraction for these kids.

In southern Indiana, it seems like many of the under 40 folks aren't professing. A death here really leaves a vacany in the fellowship meetings.
