October, 2023
Dear Friends, These recent months have been very difficult for all of us and we apologize for being unwise in what we wrote or suggested to you sometimes.
In very recent times we have enlisted the advice and help of several of our sister workers and a little band of friends that have professional backgrounds. Their spiritual sensitivity and their deep sense of care for the vulnerable, weโve greatly appreciated and have found their counsel and guidance to be practical and sound.
We anticipate good days of spiritual feeding and fellowship in our days of Special Meetings. We are aware that there may be some who at this time, arenโt comfortable having workers visit. This will enable them to make sure they arrange your visit for the time that best suits you.
We, and the workers in your field are wanting to be approachable. There are so many things weโre dealing with these days that are so new to us, and we hardly know how to handle them. However, we are so very grateful that our Heavenly Father is still on the throne, and we can still trust Him to bring about righteousness in His time.
Your brother in Him, Jim
Thanks to 'Fed up in Canada' for this letter, with the following note: Things arenโt much different up here in Canada. Wings if youโd like to post the letter below separately, please do so. This is from SK/MB/NW ON Canada Overseer Jim Atcheson. For the most part, Jim has been incognito, hoping for the storm to blow over. Now he drops this โlittle noteโ onto the friends, many of whom are still clueless about what has been going on in the fellowship. Some by choice and some due to the โdonโt ask, donโt tellโ policy of communication that is prevalent up here.

Seems like we heard something pretty similar in a letter to the friends from Dale Shultz after the Alberta excommunications and Ray Hoffman's recent response to a survivor where he isn't going to do anything further and trusts god to do it in the end. Must be their go to euphemism for 'not going to do anything we don't have to do'. I still can't believe how these workers think a good defense for not doing anything about abusers until they were pushed to do something is that we didn't know and it's all new. Yes, being held accountable IS new, but you've been dealing with abusers for a long time in a rather atrocious way. I'm pretty sure everyone knows that rape of a child is not legal or moral and that there is a responsibility to stop it when an adult finds out about it.

I cringe at their "individual case" standard of accountability. It seems to me that it has gone something like this: We can go a little easy on the guy who has lots of connections that we don't want to have to explain ourselves to. They told one young fellow to stop taking part in meetings because they'd discovered he's gotten a speeding ticket on his way to convention. haha One day I passed a cop who had the overseer pulled over and giving him a speeding ticket. ooohoooh I often wondered how many other people even heard about it.

You got it wrong Bob. the cop pulled him over because he could see that the chap had the shining countenance of one of the lords annointed and he wanted to hear the gospel. I am surprised you haven't heard that one yet. It's as outlandish as some of the other implausible stories they dish up.

If someone were to express a curiosity about the true origins of the 2x2s and how the protect their flock from abuse, rather than just the usual agenda-driven versions, I'd say you should definitely check out "Life of Brian" by Monty Python, the biblical scholar extraordinaire. I mean, why not? Satire has a way of revealing some of the greatest truths. What better way to critique a collection of allegory, metaphor, and symbolism, with some of it masquerading as history, than through a movie that employs similar literary tools? It's like holding up a mirror and saying, "Hey, what makes your fanciful fiction any less credible than this?" Especially when you're claiming your version is literally divine revelation. That's a pretty bold claim that deserves some high standards. It's not like we're comparing the best greasy spoons in the tri-state area for the tastiest beef dip. We're talking about claiming, "God talks to us, and we're the chosen ones who can tell you what He wants, with penalties if you don't listen." So, hop on the bandwagon for the Big Win! There's a celestial pot of gold at the end of that rainbow. Don't miss out on pie in the sky when you die. Secure your spot now!

Me too, all of their movies had me in stitches. Did you see "A Fish called Wanda" That (A Fish Called Wanda) is a fun one. Quite a sleeper gem. As long as we're mentioning movies, - and it was just Halloween, I'll recommend "The Witches" Great fun and delightful. They never made a follow up, although they certainly opened the door for it. Probably couldn't do a follow up to the same standard. The fingerprint's of the late great Jim Henson are on this one, up to his standards. Love at First Bite is kinda fun too.
