Workers command that people must meet in homes.
Workers teach this even before (if they even do) mention salvation by faith in God.
Is it a commandment of the workers to meet in homes or in rented halls and conventions?
I don't see 2x2s worshipping with Christians.
Is meeting in a home for 2x2s taugh as their doctrine or is it just one of many options?

It is taught as doctrine. Meet in homes, don't watch TV, no radio, no computers, no sports, women must wear dresses, men cannot have long hair, no jewely, no makeup, no singing songs not in the Hymn Book... you know, just like it says in the Holy Bible!
If you smile and shout "Praise God," you're out.

I agree, in *some* places, Bry...>I was just speaking to some tonight and in this part of the country, those things are still very much reality...the only major exceptions I would note are the computers, radio, and sports. The rest, at least here in Wisconsin, still applies! M.

Meet in homes, don't watch TV, no radio, no computers, no sports, women must wear dresses, men cannot have long hair, no jewely, no makeup, no singing songs not in the Hymn Book... Many of these things are outdated... and no longer apply... *sigh* I wish these things were truly outdated and only Jesus was preached and the things that He taught, but sadly, it's not always so. We've left behind *some* of the more insane things like the rules about shiny watch bands, not wearing certain colors and wearing closed-toed shoes, so I see good changes toward not following man-made rules. Women now days often wear sandals without hose, light makeup and have their nails done--it looks nice and I'm really grateful for the more moderate stance. Recently also I've heard a number of workers speak about these things--about the need to leave behind customs and traditions and cling to God. But... I've heard workers talk about how we ought to all look like each other too. I guess resembling Jesus (by our spirit) isn't enough for some folks. So, some progress, but we still have a ways to go too. The dress code IMO has become a curse to us. I haven't followed it in years because I think the radical rules are just wacko. It's just flat inappropriate for me to wear a skirt while doing certain jobs--like house work and yard work and mommy stuff like playing with my kid. Me looking like a fruitcake or having to fiddle with my clothing isn't drawing anybody to God or encouraging anyone. I stopped changing clothes to go hang out with the f&w too. I'm okay with them believing whatever they believe, but I just can't be a hypocrite about this stuff anymore and have found that God is encouraging me to stand up for what is right and not be afraid of what other people think. Maybe I'll be ex'd for it or get a strong talking to. I dunno. Spiritual bullies usually pick on the young or the insecure or the hurting (like sharks, they smell blood!) not people like me. I'm praying for a more Christ-centered vision for us all. peace to all, freespirit

God does not dwelling building made with mens hands. This is a church. This is a home. This is a tent. This is a shed. This is a pole barn. This is a dog house. This is a porta potty. This ANY Building made of wood, brick, drywall, sticks, mud, straw, cloths, metal.....
God dwells with in us. People who worship him worship in spirit in truth. Where they meet doesn't matter because it is not about form. But it is about meeting together with other Christians to worship god, fellowship together, become like Christ, minister to others about Christ, And spread the gospel. It is not about rules or forms. It is not about conforming to a set of man made rules....
All the rules and laws are comprehended by the two greatest commandments. Love thy lord thy god with all they heart, soul, body and mind. Love god with everything you have. Also, Love they neighbor as Jesus loved us. In these two commandments all the other commandments lay upon.
He dwells with in us. When we worship him his holy spirit fills us. He is everywhere and in everything. If we worship him in spirit and truth, it doesn't matter where we are because he will be there.
The most important part of our worship and relationship with god is our personal private time with him. Only god knows about this personal private time, and what we are doing and saying to him. He is the only one who knows each persons individual hearts. He knows the hearts where he can dwell. Our fellowship is about meeting with other Christians, as all true Christians have the in dwelling of the spirit. Therefore we are all one, joined and knit together in gods perfect handy work. We will love each other, pray for each other, share our deepest innermost secrets with each other, help each other, have each others best interests at heart, give the food and clothes of our backs to help those in need....
We will know TRUE Christians because of there love for on another.
Unfortunately this is exactly why I left the meetings. Not because of lies, or doctrine, or some horrible thing someone did to me. I left because I could see the lack of love toward one another, a lack of true Christ like love for there brothers. And not only for their brothers but for their enemies.

JMO... there is a big difference between women dressing like men and women wearing pants. But, whatever. I'm not trying to change anybody else's mind, just live the life God wants me to live.
About show and theatrics: IMO, that is why the dress code has become a curse--it's just show and theatrics--smoke and mirrors that distract us from what God wants to put in our hearts. As long as we're wrapped up in these outer, worldly, natural things, we lose the bigger blessing.
Still praying for a more Christ-centered vision for all of us.

"Love" *is* our standard, not clothing, not jewelry or the lack of jewelry, tv or lack of tv, but caring for one another. In this group (and other groups, organizations, workplaces, churches as well, for that matter) I've seen wonderful examples of love and I've also seen people who would rather lob rocks than stoop to help a brother. just ramblings. peace to all, freespirit

Bert...when you say are there not places the spirit of God will not enter? ...I don't know if I'm too sure about that. Say a man was in a strip club (settle down, men, I said SAY) and he all at once, decided he knew he was wrong and didn't want to be there and began praying to God with a sincere heart...do you really think God wouldn't be with him and hear his prayer just because of where he was? I don't agree with that. That's aside from the fact that if we are reallty seeking to worship God, we won't generally (we all make mistakes) be found in the type of places that God would not want us to be found anyway. Just my thoughts. M.

Bert Quote: God can and does dwell in buildings made with hands. Refer to Acts when Jesus and the Holy Spirit appeared to those gathering in a building (not the temple or the synagogue)
Act 7:48 Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, Act 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 1 Corinthians 3:16: Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? Mat 18:20For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them
The bible Makes it very clear that God does not dwell in temples or any building which a man may make into a temple. Gods temple is US. He dwells with in each believer. A building is nothing, it is an empty shell. God will be found there if true believers are gathered there but the building is nothing. It is the believers that draw god and his spirit to the place. When the emphasis is put on the building, the emphasis is taken off the worshipers which are gods true temple.
Bert Quote: Not true. God is quite adamant about the pattern of worship. First in the Tabernacle, "... a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle." [Exodus 40:34]
and then in the Temple, "... the cloud filled the house of the Lord, so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord had filled the house..." [1 Kings 8:10]
and then in the home, "On the day of Pentecost the spirit of God appeared to the congregation as "cloven tongues like as of fire," filling them with the Holy Ghost [Acts 2:1-2] "... suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting."
God was very particular in the OLD TESTAMENT about method of worship which was governed by many laws and rules. Also, in the old testament only the priest was aloud to enter into the tabernacle and converse directly with god and make atonement for sin. This is because the sin had separated man from god.
Hebrews 9:1-9 tells us that in the Temple a veil separated the Holy of Holies where God dwelt from the rest of the Temple where men dwelt. This signified that man was separated from God by sin (Isaiah 59:1-2). Only the High Priest was permitted to pass beyond this veil once each year (Exodus 30:10; Hebrews 9:7), enter into God's presence for all of Israel, and make atonement for their sins (Leviticus 16).
At the exact time of Jesus death... "And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the Temple was torn in two from top to bottom...” (Matthew 27:50-51a)... The veil was rent in twain.
God is no longer confined to the temple only to be entered into by the high priest. Christ is now the only way to the Father. (John 14:6) In the old testament believers need the high priest to enter in the the tabernacle and give atonement for sins, but NOW Christ is our high priest and he has given the ultimate atonement. We can now enter the Holy of Holies by Him. Hebrews 10:19-20 says that the faithful enter into the sanctuary by the “blood of Jesus, by the new and living way which he opened for us through the veil, that is, through his flesh.”
This is confirmation that God is no longer confined in the temple, and that he is open to all those who read/hear his word and accept Jesus as their lord and savior. Jews and Gentiles.
Bert Quote: The spirit of God appeared in NO other form of worship. No other arena of worship was commanded or exampled.
I would like you to find the exact verse for me that this is confirmation that Christians were to only meet in homes for all times. Also, if this is your belief then why do workers meeting in rented halls or convention tents which were NOT commanded/exampled.
Also, I would be careful about adding meaning to verses were there are non. God warns us about added to his word. This example is given to us to show us the full power of the Holy Spirit which was given to the Apostles in full, and the power it had bestowed upon them. It is also proof of what Jesus had told his disciples before his death.
Jhn 14:26 But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Jhn 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, [even] the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: Jhn 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
This is what Jesus had promised, and was a great example to those around of the power of the Holy Spirit which Jesus did promise would come. This mighty example lead to 3000 conversions.
God never commanded a specific place for worship because the place we worship is not important. God does not dwell in buildings built by hands, but he dwells within believers. Any person can approach the lord through the one and only mediator which was Christ Jesus.
Jhn 4:21Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. Jhn 4:22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. Jhn 4:23But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
Bert Quote: God didn't give us a doctrine where we make up our own minds about things. We are SHOWN how to live.
Only acceptance of Christ will gain us salvation. There is no other action we can partake of that will gain us salvation. Works will not gain us salvation. On the other hand once we have accepted Christ as our Lord and Savior we have His example, His word, and His spirit that can make us more and more like Christ. A Christian does not become instantly transformed into the perfect example which is Christ, but as we daily walk with him and let the Holy spirit direct us we will become more and more Christ like. God tells us time and time again what is most important to him in his word and bible and somehow meeting in the home was never mentioned. I wonder why this is.
His greatest commandment was to love the lord thy god with all they heart, mind, body, soul. And to love others as he loved us. Rom 13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if [there be] any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
These were the fruits of the spirit.
Gal 5:22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Gal 5:23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
And this is how god said the world would know us. Jhn 13:35 By this shall all [men] know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
Bert Quote: And if you love God, then you won't want to love anything else in this present evil world?
This is true, but is said in a condescending egotistical self righteous manner. I have met a multitude of Christians outside the friends and workers church who have more fruits of the spirit then I could of ever imagined with in the church. There morals are more then I could of ever imagined and go way beyond an outside conformity. They do not have TVs not because it is what is expected of them, but because it does not fit into their life style of serving god. But on the other hand they do not pretend to not have a TV while hiding it in the bedroom closet. While in the church I met many young people who the only reason why they professed was because they reached a certain age and it was what there parents expected of them. Same for baptism. While I have met so many Christians on the out side who have accepted Jesus not because it was what was expected of them, but because they truley had come to know him, be transformed by him, and wanted to worship him faithfully. These are just a few examples, and I have many examples. Also, this is not the norm for all friends with in the friends and workers church. But it only goes to show once again that god work cannot be contained by man made standards. God works is beyond our understand, and I would not fool myself to even begin to think that I could understand how and where god works. Jhn 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
Bert Quote: Is God really everywhere? Are there not places where the spirit of God will not enter? Psalm 139
Bert Quote: I have been told by other religious people they would never entertain the idea of having their own preachers or their own traveling brothers in their homes. Nor, for that matter, would they have a church in their home. Some love, indeed.
Mat 5:46For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? Mat 5:47And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more [than others]? do not even the publicans so?
You condemn the whole world saying that they are going to hell because they are not part of the friends and workers church. Yet you do not know their hearts. You judge what you know not.
This is against the spirit and example of Christ. Mar 2:15 And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him. Mar 2:16 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners? Mar 2:17 When Jesus heard [it], he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
But then you are not even capable of loving each other (even though you may think you are). I have never seen so much gossip and hurt among people who are suppose to love each other as I did while in the fellowship. I would definitely say that Gossip is the norm for many friends. I have heard it spoken against by certain workers who probably have noticed it is a problem, but it hasn't made much difference to the way friends work in my part of the world.
Jesus is the way the truth and the life.

To "Not in Buildings." Why don't you post a name? It is like I am answering phantoms. Thanks for your considerable reply. I will keep a copy of later reading.
I would sum up the issue of God not dwelling in temples made with hands with the following example: We are told not to worship idols. But some DO worship idols, and celebrate God's prohibitions (!) by stating categorically that they are NOT worshiping the idol, but what the idol represents.
In the New Covenant: God gave no command to build a sacred dwelling. The sacred dwelling is a form of idolatry. Those who enter the sacred dwelling have no right to serve God.
God is a God of forms, particulars, systems and methods. He stated, "See that you do it according to the plan I have shown you." And in the NT God showed us how to worship.

To "Not in Buildings." Why don't you post a name? It is like I am answering phantoms. Why don't you post your name? Are you suggesting the building we (my wife and I) were in earlier today is an idol? I I, like most (if not all) on here, reject the idea of a church building being a "sacret dwelling". Why would you think otherwise? Who in the evangelical community on these boards views a church building as a sacred dwelling? You built a nice strawman there bert... Yet you cannot provide one biblical verse in the New Testament that instructs followers to meet in homes as the God desired location for worship... This is what you do bert... you build a nice strawman and then you attack it... nothing more and nothing less...
I know of no one in the evangelical community that views their church building as anything more then a place to gather for worship as a body of believers... and if by chance you can point to someone who does view the building as something sacred, then I, along with most (if not all) others on here, will reject their false beliefs.
A church building is NO DIFFERENT then a 2x2 home, in the context of a place to gather for worship...

You are right on, Bert... God the Father has given His Son Jesus Christ a certain system, method to follow on how men and women can receive Salvation through believing and accepting His Son as the Lord God and Savior. Yet you refuse to list out the verses that clearly show it was a "system" instructed for believers to follow. Yes... THAT's IT... in spirit and in truth... not in a home instead of a building... You speak the truth and then use it to reject the truth... We are to worship in Spirit and in Truth.... NOTHING MORE... no restrictions were ever placed on where we today are to gather for fellowship... The system you speak of Is JESUS CHRIST ALONE... no homeless/paired preaching... no home based fellowshipping only... You are adding to the word of God by promoting more then JESUS CHRIST ALONE!

As I mentioned in my previous posts when it comes to the scriptures you don't know or understand much of it. List the verses... that's all I ask... Yes... only in spirit and in truth... no restriction on location... which the 2x2 ministry does not promote... Instead you fellowship puts man-made restrictions on where to meet and were not to meet... Homes = Good Church buildings = Bad (except for the church buildings on convention grounds... they don't count) What specific point are you attempting to defend/promote by the use of these verses?
