There's few of them left anyway.

Maybe if we spiced our service up with dancing girls, rock bands, feel-good psychology, mushy "just believe and your saved" doctrines and neater, brighter buildings we will bring in the suckers, I mean, souls.

To Bert, I don't know you Bert but my heart goes out to you as time is short for all of us..you need to get your house in order..you know not of what you speak...and the manner in which you speak indicates you sorely need a work of God in your heart and life....'just believe and your saved' ...'suckers, I mean souls'....where does this type of language come from..surely doesn't indicate a loving ,living relationship with Him and in Him. When God's Holy Spirit indwells us it will not manifest in this manner. I left the 'truth'..after many years...too many but God is ever gracious and kind..I have found a Church...not that a Church ...or a building is the important thing here..but solid Biblical teaching is of the utmost importance, and it is out there, always has been....just open your heart to God..ask Him, cry out to Him..He will hear and direct your paths..I believe that with all my heart. As far as what you call rock bands..where I have the privelege to attend...they use violins, piano, organ, drums, guitar, singers..individual...a choir...yes takes some getting used to...nothing in the scriptures that says it is wrong...the singing is reverant and beautiful.. and truly praises God as we should..this is so very scriptural..just get out your Bible and read about it....in my time there I have never heard anyone speak in the above manner...Jesus loves sinners...and in this Church there is a great love for 'souls' and you are accountable for your behaviour.. when I had the great privilege of sitting under the gospel there..hearing for the first time in my life the gospel of real ' living' truth..and by His most Holy spirit I was drawn to Christ..my life has undergone 360 degree turn if that is possible...changed from the inside out as God has always worked.. and I thank God..Praise Him...Thank-you Jesus.. yes I spent many years in the ' truth' and in the 'work'...have said this as gently as I can..God Bless oh yes ,yes you must believe..that is so important..so very vital..but that is just the first step..as my Pastor says, " We do not have the freedom to pick and choose the aspects of God's revelation that are attractive or ignore the parts we do not like, still call it Christian and expect it to work or regard it as authentic. We can only live the Christian life on God's terms. Anything else may make us religious but will leave us powerless." he further said, " I live the Christian life on God's terms, or I do not live it at all. Therefore our business is to find out God's conditions and be very careful to meet them" he goes on in much greater detail...does that sound like ' believe and you are saved'....be honest with yourself ..that is another first step...to freedom in Christ

wow, great response. I was thinking much the same no longer captive.
At union meeting Sunday one mentioned all the churches they passed on the way to meeting. And how those churches post catchy phrases to get people to want to come to them. How it is all about intertainment, fun, and partying.
Then someone else read the story of Col Goodnight who is a famous texan who professed. On his death bed he asked the worker if he'd be forgiven. The worker asked for what. The col said I not only built churches but paid to have them built, and now I know it is the work of the devil.
My professing husband apoligized when we left the home. He said he was sorry that I had to listen to that. I told him I needed to speak to my pastor because someone isn't telling me about these partys and I don't want to miss them:)
I have wonderful fellowship at the Bible Church I go to, and other then someone getting offended about learning about Christ, noone would be uncomfortable with any thing said.
Bert I'll pray for you also, that God's blessing and love can calm your heart.
Love Kathy

So you're hearing the gospel of real living truth for the first time then? Well what on earth was it you thought you were hearing the first time round? And what was it you thought you were preaching as a worker? A false truth?
I suspect you belived it to be a gospel of real living truth but were too deluded to realise it wasn't. I suspect that you even had firm views on those who refused to accept your truth then ......... in which case why on earth should anyone accept what you preach as truth now? How do we know you're not even more deluded this time round ..... how do we know you're not a serial deluder? You can't seriously claim to be above delusion.

to captive guest: you got it..yes indeed it was/is false...as you state..you are on the right track..now run don't walk away from it...what I heard the first time like you was indeed false...is false..is a stronghold of Satan himself..really didn't want to be so explicit..and yes I was deluded for many years but God is so gracious ..He brings us to a point of despair of ' religion' before we are ready to see the real , living Christ..The Christian life is not something we live for God, but something God lives in us. From start to finish it is a life of faith in God's ability to work. as far as preaching it ..and for the harm it did to others..."If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness"..yes we will sin again..but trust in the sufficiency and the efficacy of the Cross....is it 'deluded' to believe in the Word of God.. if so I am guilty...
if you are comfortable where you are so be it ..but you write with anger.. maybe read Matthew 5....I am not preaching..have no desire to.. if one is indwelled by God's Holy Spirit..John 16:13 Jesus promised of the Spirit that " He will guide you into all Truth' not delusion...the operative word is 'guide'..as we diligently study the Bible and think carefully and clearly about its truth..the Spirit will guide our thinking and bring us into all truth..as we are actively enagaged in seeking for truth..

E But that's what bert really believes... he believes that if you are unwilling for God's true way that you do want to see dancing girls and rock bands in church... and feeling good means you're not suffering enough... so anything in church that feels positive must be false and not of God... I have no doubt bert believes in his heart that we, as exes, want to go to strip clubs every night of the week, and is one of the reasons we left... because we were unwilling and wanted to see nude girls, among things....

I'm thinking with Bert saying the things he does about those who aren't part of his elite group are what's deep in his own heart. A secret sin or his own fantasies. How would he know about these things if he wasn't thinking about it - so it's easy to accuse others about something he would be doing himself. Of course, only God knows what's deep in Bert's heart and soul.
I'm too lazy to go look it up but somewhere in the Bible it says what comes out of our mouths - is what we are or become. And, one day we will answer to God for every word.
