Is the law of the USA negative? All legal systems are cast in the negative. The function of law is to prohibit and condemn certain behaviours, and to ascribe penalties to those behaviours. Anything not proscribed by the law is assumed to be permissable (though not always socially acceptable).
My source is a common understanding of what law actually is.
Brad: you know as well as I do that you have made a mistake by criticising Nathan's comment. But because you are unable to admit your error - which would certainly do your reputation a lot of good - you persist in fighting a losing battle. You ain't gonna win; and you ain't gonna convince anyone that any legal system (religious or civil) is based on a positive logic. They're not.
Not long ago you said you relied solely on the word of God and this allows you to ridicule people. You called ridicule an effective means of evangelism, which is perfectly consistent with the Bible.
Sadly, you are on the recieving end now. The New Testament is brimming with passages explaining that the Law is "
the power of sin", that it "
arouses sinful passions", and that it cannot save, but can only condemn. If you think this is good news for the human race, you are sadly in error! The job of the Law was to show us our inability, our lost estate, and to lead us to Christ.
If you will not accept this, well, it's as ol' Granpapy used to say, "the Gospel has passed you by like an afternoon express train, and you didn't even look in the windows".
Brad, be warned. You are kicking against the goad of the scripture, as well as common sense. And it's not doing you a lot of good.
