My Aunt Virginia passed today sometime late last night or early this morning. Arlee/Missoula, MT.
She was 92 years, 11 months and 2 weeks old.
She fought very bravely to stay alive.
I thought she was going to go the same day her daughter died but she held on about 4 /5 days? . She came to several times had 1 or 2 bites of food, then went back into whatever state she was in.
When she talked she didn't make any sense most of the time. I don't know that they ever told her that her daughter passed. She had no pain.
A Cousin suggested it might have been a stroke, they might be right. About 3 days before all this happened and she wouldn't wake up, she said to me she could no longer stand to get into her wheelchair or scooter.
Born in Iowa to my Grandpa and Grandma Eicher.
She married S. Chafee, they moved to S. Dakota for a few years, lived in a camper for that time, then on to Montana.
She had 5 children, 4 girls and 1 boy. 3 girls and the boy survive. Trudy her youngest is the one that passed away last week.
She and S. Chafee were professing, but divorced so Aunt Virginia and Chafee stopped. I actually never met him.
Several years later she was working at a Missoula Truck stop as a waitress and Joe Eddy walked in. He was a short haul trucker. He saw stars immediately she said no way. Not sure how long it took but eventually they got married.
Uncle Joe had 3 or 4 of his own kids too.
Her oldest child/daughter professed around 11 but I think she also stopped when the divorce happened it wasn't long. None of the others ever did.
Aunt Virginia and Uncle Joe lived on a 20 acre mini farm(cattle) on the Reservation (100-year lease) till both passed. They took me in when I discharged from the Navy, they needed help with their Antique business. I've never forgotten that, they were very cool and nice people.
She lived a rough rural life in Montana. Her and her sister Ruth (passed away in Jan 2023) and my mom in their younger days looked quite alike.
She and Uncle Joe both professed around 1988 give or take a year? She re-professed.
He stopped eventually except for when he wanted to partake (not often), she was faithful to the end.
Before She divorced, she was a stay-at-home mom, When she married Uncle Joe she went back to doing that or helped Uncle Joe on his truck routes...
Grandma and Grandpa Eicher both passed in February also him '78(he was 1 month shy of 77) her '96 (she was 93 years, 9 months and 2 weeks old) their Eldest Daughter/Child passed away in a Jan also in'96.
Now its just mom (85 soon) and her brother (92 soon).
Mom really relied on Aunt Virginia since about '96.
sigh...
