Hello folks:
I need some help. We are planning a trip to Melbourne and wondered if some would give me some ideas on places to visit, restaurants and a nice hotel for accommodations.
Thanks a bunch!

None of the sought after items exist in melbourne.
Try another city.

Instead of being mocked by people on the TMB who probably have NO intention of helping you
Why don't you go and get a nice little travel guide for reasonable money from a book store near you. This often have a lot of information about the thing you are looking for, with estimated prices, and ratings from people who have been, along with touristy stuff and site seeing do dads.....

Nice place, Melbourne. Weather changes all the time, so be prepared for four seasons in one day. Some of the best coffee shops are in Melbourne Their bay isn't as good as Sydney's, but. Tons of restaurants - you don't need to book unless you are going out Saturday night. Their so-called "south bank" is a tourist destination. Accommodation is easy to find, so long as you are not looking for anything long term! Some good links include: www.visitmelbourne.com/and melbourne.citysearch.com.au/I think that is where Gary Johnston lives

Thanks Bert.
FWIW I asked on here because I know there are folks from Australia who I would hope would be able to give me honest recommendations and not just pumped up stuff for tourism purposes.
I shall also use a travel guide.
Thanks a bunch

Not to be negative....but I find it unusual that you would plan a trip to "melbourne". Most people Plan a trip to Australia, and MAYBE visit Melbourne..........Its a huge country, with so much more to offer that just whats inside that cities walls... PS.... Have A GRAET trip

Just remember to pronounce it right, and they will love you.......repeat "Melbin" several times before you get there!

Should the accent be on the Mel or the Bin? Can you rhyme it with another word so we'll be in the know?

We were there a number of years ago, and enjoyed going out to Phillips Island to watch the penguins come ashore at sunset. We also enjoyed touring the war memorial there. Some folks might not like it so much, but I'm a history nut LOL! I'm also curious as to why you are choosing to "go to Melbourne". There is an outrageous amount to see elsewhere also!! Edy

Just remember to pronounce it right, and they will love you.......repeat "Melbin" several times before you get there! What would 'clearday' know he's probably never been near the place. Just for the record, Melbourne is one of the three most livable cities in the world, the others being Vancouver and Vienna.. and we're betting 'clearday' doesn't come from them either so it's a big bout of envy. Melbourne is the most European of the Oz cities, heaps of restaurants with food from every nation (Greek, Italian, Lebanese, Indian, Asian, etc etc even McDonalds from America). Trams, friendly, sport loving, zoos, penguin parade after dusk, the only thing missing are the beaches and weather of Perth. Ask Cherie, she has friends from Oz and can put you in contact. Just practice your 'g'day mate' and they'll love ya, no matter where you're from.

Only you are blinded by your pride, the best cities in the world are Vienna, Vancouver, and Sydney! I'll also have you know I can speak Aussie quite well thank you. "G'dye mite" is not enough. You have to also know how to say "Good on ya mite", "no worries mite" and "How you goin'?" Oh, and make sure you understand the difference between a mite and bloke, or you could be in some real trouble.

A beautiful French girl forced to live in Sydney by her work, visiting charming Melbourne, told us 'Sydney is too fast, businesslike, too.. American!' (screwing up her pert nose). And, 'Melbourne is more European'. A credible independent assessment ;D I rest my case. Enjoy, 'Seeking Info'.
