Hi everyone,
On a serious note. we just had a bridge collapse on a major interstate bypass here in Minneapolis. If you have a tv you can probably see this. It is the end of rush hour and was bumper to bumper traffic. Probably as bad as the earthquake collapse in California a while back...or worse. The bridge spans the Mississippi river and it looks really bad....

35W bridge over Mississippi collapsed People were crawling to rescue Wednesday after the 35W bridge over the Mississippi River has collapsed. Cars were on fire. Witnesses have told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that people are in the water. 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS crews estimate as many as 50 vehicles are in the crash. Police began a rescue operation to save those people. Emergency crews are on the scene. Witnesses tell us they heard a loud rubbling noise before the collapse.

WoW!
An engineering nightmare among other things!
I wonder how many people thought the bridge was really going to collapse this time. I feel uneasy when the overpasses sway and rock as big trucks go over it.

I heard about that on the news this evening. How terrifying! I can only imagine the terror those people must have felt. I have not heard any information on fatalities. Do they think that everyone who fell in may have survived?

Thanks,
I also live in Ramsey, and work at the Minneapolis post office within a mile of where the bridge collapsed. So far everyone I have checked on is okay, but I know there are some fatalities. Lots of people I work with use that bridge, and in fact a couple brought a trailer they had borrowed back to us tonight, and just by chance came a different way up or could have been on the bridge when it happened. My wife and I crossed it on our motorcycles on Saturday on the way back home from our trip to North Carolina.
So sad...

Prayers already on the way for all of those either directly, or indirectly, with this tragedy. Three dear families, friends of mine are there{Ramsey, one who works @ UM,another live north of TC, but was working @ UM} , but praises be, all are safe. Let me get this straight - you are giving praise to God because the people whose lives He choose to snuff out were not people you knew? Or you praying that the people whose lives were taken died quickly and without pain? Or that those who believed in God in all of His forms and cried out to Him and then died anyway won't hold in against Him after Jesus promised that whatever you asked in His name would be granted? Isn't this a little like a person going into a shopping mall with a shotgun, killing 20 people in a store and them expecting the people he didn't get to kill to praise him for his kindness and for being so merciful? God is in control. The bridge collapsed because He allowed it. The people died with His knowledge. If you are going to thank God for allowing some people to live you should also thank him for the other side of the coin. Or do you just thank God for the things he does that you agree with? My heart goes out to those who love and lost in this tragedy. someone who cares[/quote]

whomever you are, grow a heart and show some compassion. This isn't an academic exercise for you to debate. I suggest you refrain from posting further on this thread. Please.

One of our young friends crossed the bridge seven or eight minutes before the collapse.
She works on Washington Avenue. They said she was heading to a doctors appt north of the cities and was running late because of a meeting. She had planned to pump gas at the Bobby and Steve's but saw the backup on the bridge due to the construction and decided not to spend the five or so minutes filling her tank.
I am sure there are many other close calls just as there was on 911.

This situation is simply unacceptable. The year is 2007 and we still haven't got it right. We should not have our structures collapsing like this.
I swear the election can't get here soon enough to kick this loser cowboy clown out of office. Come on November 2008.
First it was the towers in New York. Then the city of New Orleans. And now this bridge.
Wake up America.

Throw him out on his butt for such poor construction.

I'm a pathetic little piss-ant, with a hairy ass, and a lilly livered coward because I'm not stupid enough to think bush is at fault for the bridge collapsing? Have I got this right? lol... Perhaps you also think bush is responsible for the rest of the 150,000+ bridges being structurally deficient in our country...

So now Clinton's act of adultery in the Oval Office is being termed a smear campaign perpetrated by the (left wing) drive-by media?
That home lobotomy kit certainly worked for you.
