Not being able to read Biblical Hebrew, I'll tell you some of what he told me.
Critical is that Adam wasn't the first human -- he was an apparent new created
man "more in God's image". And Eve was made to be an appropriate spouse for him.
Adam and Eve's children subsequently married spouses from the lesser humans
already populating the earth. Apparently there is a term in the Hebrew that
distinguishes the other people on the earth from Adam's caste, race, species,
or whatever it was.
He also didn't think of Adam and Eve's expulsion from the Garden as a fall.
God changed his mind somehow about making them special and decided he would
make them as other humans so they wouldn't compete with Himself and whoever
he was discussing them with.
It sounds a bit confusing -- but no moreso than the common modern Christian
understandings of that scripture.
