A man in our meeting said "those in the world want to see God's people fail". What does that mean? I wish I knew at the time how to confront him. I mean are there some who want the friends to fail so they can make fun of them or put them down? Do you rejoice when professing folks make mistakes?

I'm sure there are some in this category. I would also submit that the reverse is true. To see somebody who has "lost out" actually crash and burn just adds credibility to the "lost out" label.

I said something in meeting recently almost the same, but being an non-exclusivist, my meaning would have been a little different. The statemement I made in meeting was something like this, "I believe that Satan's primary occupation is to separate believers from God." and I mentioned what I saw as a few of Satan's tools to ply his craft. Possibly your friend meant something similar, but would have had perhaps a different definition of "the world" and "God's people" than I do.

Could you tell us more about satan's tools you discussed?

I mean are there some who want the friends to fail so they can make fun of them or put them down? Do you rejoice when professing folks make mistakes? I thought that people were really watching me serve God and my neighbors could see that the light of life was shining through my countenance. After I left meetings I talked with my neighbors, most didn't realize anything about what I did or didn't believe. They knew I kept to myself and I wore a skirt and had my hair up. They knew my children didn't do any of the local activities and my girls wore dresses and had their hair done all the time. They were not attracted to meetings by my countanence or anything else. I see some of the professing people occassionally, I don't wish them any ill at all but they are nobodies just like the rest of the "world". They are someone you walk by, drive by or sit by. The big baloney line about everyone watching and wanting them to fail isn't true. It is an egotistical, arrogant, self-centered point of view.

Could you tell us more about satan's tools you discussed? No 1 tool: The TTT web site. Actually, the no.1 tool is deception. Particularly things that sound so tantalizing right but steer you away from God by putting other people or things first. No2 tool is pride. It's blinding. It prevents learning. There's lots more of course, but hey, I only get 1-2minutes in meeting! There you have it, the basics of one of my Sun testimonies.

Cherie--I would add "fear" to that list too. Fear of what people think of us.
I firmly believe that this is one of the main reasons that this religion has got itself in such a fix with all the wacko dress codes. I mean... I guess in 1950 it was okay to believe that a jean skirt, bobby socks, and long sleeved blouse with that little string tie doohickey was da bomb. But... YEOCH! we look like a bunch of fruit cakes right now. The worst of it.. I've talked to a BUNCH of people--quietly, privately, from older sister workers to just run of the mill folks. And many, many see past the whole dress code thang. Yet, there we are, at picnics and convention workdays wearing this getup that makes us look like, well, a cult.
If the first few people who saw past the dress code would STAND UP for what is right and scriptural, I believe we could all start to have a more open vision of Jesus.
I'm kinda thinking the hypocrisy of hiding our TV's and movies isn't doing us any favors either. JMO of course. But that just stems from fear of looking bad in the sight of others.
And cramming our own convictions onto other people...well, that can't be great. Maybe that's pride. I'm not sure.
some random thoughts.
peace to all, freespirit
