I have two recent invites to Gospel meetings. One from USA and one from the UK. I could not help but notice some very telling differences in the methods and message of the print style and what is being sold. I have put the basic messages on here in the forms (Caps and bold letters) as presented in the invites with all the names and places deleted. Does anyone see the differences?
One from USA
COME AND SEE WHAT WE'VE FOUND!
We have found a MINISTRY that care about people and is personally concerned with ever individual. We hav found PEOPLE that fulfill the word of Jesus in John 13:35, "By this shall all men know ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." The people read their Bibles, pray, and worship God in spirit and in truth. These people include the very youn to the very aged; many of whom have enjoyed this fellowship most of their lives. We have found a WAY that works without financial bondage, and produces life, peace, and hope within the heart.

NO LITERATURE, NO COLLECTION, EVERYONE IS WELCOME

CHRISTIAN BIBLE TALKS
(Time Place and such left out)
The PURPOSE of these services is to awaken a deeper interest in the BIBLE and in the life and teachings of JESUS CHRIST. To bring the faith of Jesus to those who do not have it and to strengthen the faith of those who do. We assume no other name then Christians.
NO COLLECTION TAKEN ALL WELCOME

Either one would be appropriate in this area.

The first is a very emotional appeal. Perhaps geared toward the lonely misfits etc
The second is more intellectual.
Since converts usually are the lonely disenfranchised evenlosers I imagine the first ad is better for their audience.

The first seems more focused on the group, not on Christ- which is what I am most familiar with when it comes to the mindset of 2x2s in my area.
The second points to Christ, which is rather refreshing and unexpected.

The second points to Christ, which is rather refreshing and unexpected. This is what I saw right up. Both have three words that carry the message. USA Ministry People WAYUK Purpose Bible JESUS CHRISTIt seems clear that there is a difference in what seems important from the US one to the UK one The US one is placing emphasis on the group. The UK is is placing emphasis on Christ Big Difference

I have to say I`ve seen both in the UK.
I`ve seen an exact copy of the second one, and one similar to the first one basically saying we`ve found a ministry, people, way etc.
Both in same area, not sure if workers were the same.
The latest I`ve seen just says "Gospel meeting are starting again on......at......."
I would assume these are just for the friends and there are different ones for "outsiders".
Personally when I saw the "Christian Bible Talks" invitation I felt it was deceptive.
Christians from other churches would be going to the "Bible Talks" oblivious of the fact that that they wouldn`t even be considered true Christians and that the ultimate purpose of the gospel meeting would be to get them into "the only true way"

NO COLLECTION TAKEN ALL WELCOMEIn this area the second invite used to be the standard--lately it has been replaced by the first example. The old style invite didn't get many outsiders, the senior workers thought that by playing up the warm fuzzy qualities of the workers friends and group they would get more interest. I am in Chico CA we usually do have some interest here. I have not noticed a difference from what we had before. Every year I distribute these in neighborhoods, but rarely does anyone try the meetings. the theory about emphasizing the way versus Jesus is interesting but it was not the intent of the change at least not here. The content of the meetings has not changed, just the advertising--more warm and fuzzy--means more people drawn out of the world hopefully! time will tell!

Are two very different invitations in context. One makes the invitation very simple and is non exclusive point to Christ as the main of the meetings.
The other is clearly an invitation to a Group. I certainly see the Three Words that Highlight the two and agree they are key to the content of the invitations. I also see something else.
PEOPLE that fulfill the word of Jesus--Are these the only people who do this?- Seems that is what the invite is saying.
The people read their Bibles, pray, and worship God in spirit and in truth. Are these the only people who do this? - Seems that is what the invite is saying.
And this one really gets me.
We have found a WAY that works without financial bondage, and produces life, peace, and hope within the heart. This most differently is point to the workers way and not Jesus. This statement is so exclusive leaving out Jesus it stinks.
The UK one is just so simple and pointing to Jesus.

I'm from the UK.
The USA - Looks good and cosy but in reality does not "personally concerned with every individual" A real sales man approach. Loads of other churches members also pray and read. BUT... Looks like someone will help me pay off my finances. GREAT!!
The UK - Straight to the point. Listen to bible teaching or not.
WHICH ONE SHALL I GO TO? They both are so different.... a split church.... nothing in common. No unity.

What we see here in these two invitations are prime examples of the differences in thinking which is leading to the divisions. It is clear that some places have workers who are teaching the exclusivity of the group over the teaching of Christ. Of course those Workers believe that there group is the "WAY" and therefore want to push it.
On the other hand there are those workers who know Jesus is the "WAY"
In both cases the end result is to proselytize one to join the group.
For those who claim there are no differences we can certainly see it in these invitations. For many friends they are starting to see these inconsistencies also. This is cause for questions.
This is the reason there are many leaving. Wrong message and inconsistent foundations.

What struck me right away was the invitation to "come and see". There were the exact words used in John 2 when men who had found Jesus were urging others to come and see what they had found. In that case, the invitation was to come and see JESUS. In the case of the invitation to gospel meetings, it seems to be an invitation to come and see a group of people and a way of worship.
